Die ene schrijft dat ze bij ABCNews een interview met de drummer van Metallica, Lars Ulrich, hebben over Napster. Hieronder een flinke quote van Lars waarom ze Napster aanklagen:
"The kind of money we're talking about here that's being lost in revenues right now (to Napster) is absolutely at the pocket change level right now. I mean, it's pennies. I can tell you, Sam, that this lawsuit is costing us tenfold the amount to keep going than the revenues that we're losing, so we feel that right now, it's about putting your foot down. It's about trying to get a dialog started. It's about trying to set some parameters for the future about who should control these issues, and will there be some guidelines and some monitoring policies that will make this much more of a fairly balanced scenario for the future."
"Of course, we are aware that there are things coming along right now that will make Napster seem obsolete... Does that mean it's morally not the right thing to do to start somewhere?... Of course, this is a David and Goliath situation, but it doesn't mean that this is not an issue that should be dealt with... It doesn't just affect recording artists. It affects movies. It affects literature. And this is, basically, technology run amok. This is the dark side of the Internet that's going to throw everything about our society on its head... It's a very, very long battle ahead, but just because the odds are against us doesn't mean that it's not the right battle to fight."
"One of the big picture things that we're trying to deal with here is people are getting so comfortable now with the computer as a tool, and taking the computer for granted to the point where now people believe that they have a right to get music, literature, art, and other things for free over the Internet because they have access to them. And, that's a very, very dangerous train of thought, and that's one that I feel that if that train of thought is not challenged in the next couple of years, this thing has the potential to run completely amok, and throw commerce and creative entities and the way people relate to those completely upside down."
Je kan veel van Metallica zeggen maar toch niet dat dit een slechte reden is om Napster aan te klagen (vind ik ).
