QNAP heeft de eerste update voor versie 4.2 uitgebracht van de firmware die op diverse modellen van zijn nas-apparaten staat. Het eerste wat opvalt in versie 4.2 is de geheel vernieuwde interface. Daarnaast is de beveiliging verbeterd. Zo kan er nu een tweetrapsinlogprocedure worden ingesteld, via een met een app gegenereerde inlogcode. Verder kan er nu naar verschillende apparaten tegelijk media worden gestreamd en zijn er diverse verbeteringen aangebracht met betrekking tot virtualisatie en Storage Management. - Due to the lack of compatibility with DVB-T TV dongles, the Digital TV Station app will be removed from the QTS 4.2 App Center in certain regions.

- Fixed an issue where if the NAS reboots while a RAID is resyncing (RAID6), the RAID will be inactive after the reboot.
- Fixed an issue where File Station fails to copy files larger than 30MB from a local device to OneDrive.
- Fixed an issue where Download Station can still download files with an incorrect proxy setting.
- Fixed an issue where RAID groups would become "inactive" after rebooting the NAS when the QNAP signature on the disks is missing.
- Fixed an issue where the TVS-871T would keep trying to recover from an error if it is connected to 2 Thunderbolt devices at the same time.
- Fixed an issue where the TVS-871T could not establish a Thunderbolt link with a Mac via Thunderbolt cable.
- Fixed an issue where the TVS-871T may not produce a Thunderbolt IP after updating to a new firmware.
- Fixed an issue where a TS-871T will fail to reconnect over Thunderbolt after the NAS wakes up from hibernation mode.
- Fixed an issue where a 10GbE NIC will be disconnected after the NAS goes into hibernation mode.
- Fixed an issue where it will fail to open the Credential Manager on Windows 8.1 when the Domain Controller is enabled on the NAS.
- Fixed an issue where the Next button of "iSCSI Target Only" is disabled while a thin volume is created and its status is "Ready".
- Fixed an issue where the NAS is unable to backup files with the one-touch button when a Sony SBAC-UT100 card reader is in EXT4 or EXT3.
