De ontwikkeling van versie 4.2 van het Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center is bij de vijfde bètarelease aangeland. Deze Linux-distributie is gebaseerd op XBMC Media Center en kan een computer tot een volwaardige htpc omtoveren. OpenELEC is eenvoudig te installeren, onderhouden en gebruiken, en is verder klein en razendsnel. Versie 4.2 draait op Linux kernel 3.15, Mesa-10.2 en Xorg-1.16, en bevat onder meer nieuwere Nvidia-drivers. Als basis wordt XBMC Gotham 13.2 gebruikt. De belangrijkste veranderingen in deze versie, die intern als 4.1.5 aangeduid wordt, zien er als volgt uit:

This release includes some bugfixes, security fixes and improvements since OpenELEC-4.1.4. Besides the usual bugfixes and package updates we updated XBMC to XBMC Gotham 13.2 final, FFmpeg to ffmpeg-2.3.3, Mesa to Mesa-10.3-rc1and systemd to systemd-216. We fixed crashes while playing FLAC files with ID3v2 tags, optimized some software packages and updated the RaspberryPi firmware to include the last fixes and features.

precies. En die heeft al wel de benodigde hardware aan boord om dit te kunnen. Een HTPC maakt gebruik van een "normale" videokaart, waar dat niet op zit. Er zijn slechts een paar laptops (van Toshiba ben ik ze tegen gekomen) die CEC ondersteunen. Voor alle andere machines is een CEC-adapter nodig. Dat is 99% van de keren een externe adapter (USB). Er bestaan wel interne adapters, maar dan moet je moederbord over een header hiervoor beschikken, en er zijn afaik slechts 5 bordjes van Intel die dat hebben.
