Software-update: Google Chrome 19.0.1084.46

Google heeft de eerste stabiele uitgave van versie 19 van zijn webbrowser Chrome uitgebracht. Google Chrome is beschikbaar in drie verschillende uitvoeringen: stable, bèta en dev. Developmentversies zitten in een vroeg stadium van ontwikkeling en zijn dus het minst stabiel. Nieuw in versie 19 is onder andere dat open tabs nu ook gesynchroniseerd worden als je in in Chrome ingelogd bent. Het changelog laat verder weer een flinke lijst met beveiligingsupdates zien.

Stable Channel Release

The Google Chrome team is happy to announce the arrival of Chrome 19 to the Stable Channel for Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome Frame. Chrome 19 contains a number of new features like tab sync. More detailed updates are available on the Chrome Blog .

Koppeling met de Android Chrome is briljant (ook gewoon andere Chrome's). Ik had hier altijd een plugin voor draaien (Chrome to phone), maar die werkte nooit fijn. Dit is echt een fijne oplossing.

Grote veranderingen in versie 19:

• Access tabs between devices
• Reorganized settings interface.
• Added Web Store link to the bottom of New Tab Page.
• Experimental JavaScript Harmony (ECMAScript 6) support.

Die Ecmascript support is goed zichtbaar in de tests:
On Ecma International's ECMAScript standards conformance Test 262 (version ES5.1 of 2012-03-28):

• Chrome version 18.0.1025.168 scored 48/11563
• Chrome version 19.0.1084.46 scored 26/11563
• Chrome beta version 20.0.1123.1 scored 17/11563

For comparison, both Internet Explorer and Safari have scores of 600+. Lower scores are better, as the figure represents the number of failed tests out of the total number of tests.

HTML5 ondersteuning zit er inmiddels ook erg goed in:
On the HTML5 test (April, 2012 – version 3.0), Chrome version 18.0.1025.168 scored 400 out of 500, with 13 bonus points, version 19.0.1084.46 scored 402, with 13 bonus points. The beta version 20.0.1123.1 scored 412 out of 500, with 13 bonus points.

Ik vind Chrome 19 merkbaar sneller dan 18 en dat is nice.
Het leek gezichtsbedrog omdat Google de startpagina veranderd had van nieuwe-tabbladpagina naar about:blank. Maar ook na het terug instellen van new tab page als startpagina blijft Chrome lekker soepel.

Hij is inderdaad echt sneller, tenminste voor mijn gevoel. Ik vond Opera nog sneller als Chrome 18. Maar nu is hij sneller of even snel als Opera voor mijn gevoel.
