Handbrake kan films die op een dvd staan, omzetten naar videobestanden met een h.264- of mpeg4-beeldindeling en een aac-, ac-3-, mp3- of Ogg Vorbis-geluidsindeling. Hoewel het programma eerder geforkt werd naar Mediafork, hebben de beide groepen ontwikkelaars al weer enkele maanden de handen ineen geslagen en gaan ze verder onder de naam Handbrake. Versie 0.9.2 is sinds kort beschikbaar voor Linux, Mac OS X en Windows en voorzien van de volgende aankondiging:

HandBrake 0.9.2 incorporates many major and exciting changes—including full support for the AppleTV Take 2 and the latest iPhone/iPod Touch firmware. Mac users take note: this release is only compatible with Mac OS X Leopard, 10.5.
