Adobe heeft Adobe Reader voor Linux en Solaris voorzien van een update naar versie 8.1.1, die momenteel alleen in het Engels beschikbaar is. Met dit programma kunnen documenten van het type Portable Document Format op de computer worden gelezen en geprint. Daarnaast is het mogelijk om deze documenten te doorzoeken naar woorden of woordgroepen. De ontwikkelaars hebben met deze versie weer een hoop zaken verbeterd en toegevoegd zoals je in de volgende lijst met aanpassingen na kan lezen:

- Ability to hash the document before signing plus ability to parse certificates hashed with these algorithms: RIPEMD 160, SHA 386, SHA 512.
- Conformance Checker - This enhances the 7.0 Document Integrity Checker to include PDF/SIG Q (Qualified Signatures) conformance checks, automatically done before launching in the Signature Preview Mode.
- Signing a Document - Provisioning a digital id and registering it for use in Acrobat is now a distinct step from the signing process.
- Roaming Credentials for Signatures - The addition of this feature provides users the ability to enroll in a signing service.
- Certificate Viewer Additions - Certificate Viewer in 8.0 display attribute certificate details.
