Iets langer dan een halfjaar na de vorige release hebben de mensen van Gnome een nieuwe stabiele versie uitgebracht van de desktopomgeving. Zoals we inmiddels gewend zijn van de mensen van Gnome worden er bij een nieuwe stabiele versie nieuwe features geïntroduceerd en uiteraard ook de nodige bugs geplet. Versie 2.18 brengt verbeteringen met zich mee op het gebied van beveiling en games. Wat er precies veranderd is in deze release kan nagelezen worden in dit document of onderaan dit artikel. Gnome wordt niet verspreid als kant-en-klare binary, maar moet zelf gecompileerd worden of wacht todat de Linux-distributeurs de nieuwe versie hebben opgenomen in hun distro's.
