De Amiga is een machine waar veel mensen met enig gevoel van nostalgie aan terugdenken. Hoe toepasselijk is het dan in deze laatste week van het jaar, waarin volop wordt teruggekeken naar het verleden, dat Hyperion Entertainment het uitkomen van de 'The Final Update' van versie 4.0 van het AmigaOS. AmigaOS 4.0 is bijna vijf jaar in ontwikkeling geweest en de eerste versie die aan het publiek is voorgesteld dateert alweer van mei 2004. Sindsdien zijn er vier updates voor uitgebracht en nu heeft Hyperion Entertainment, na wat laatste puntjes op de i geplaatst te hebben, besloten dat het besturingssysteem volwassen genoeg is geworden om het stempel 'Final' mee te krijgen.
Hyperion Entertainment liet verder weten dat begin volgend jaar verschillende fabrikanten op PowerPC gebaseerde hardware zullen aankondigen, die geschikt zijn om AmigaOS 4.0 te kunnen draaien. AmigaOS 4.0 is alleen voor geregistreerde AmigaOne-klanten te downloaden vanaf deze pagina. Hieronder zijn de veranderingen te vinden die sinds de vierde update zijn aangebracht:
