Op het forum van Winamp is een nieuwe bètaversie verschenen van de in ontwikkeling zijnde 5.2-tak. De update is te herkennen aan buildnummer 427 en kan gedownload worden in de uitvoeringen Full, Standard en Lite. Winamp is in staat om diverse mediabestanden af te spelen. Oorpsronkelijk werd het programma ontwikkeld om mp3-bestanden af te spelen, maar in de loop der tijd is er ondersteuning toegevoegd voor meer formaten.
