The new Voodoo3 Overclocker version 2.0 now has support for Windows NT4. You can adjust the graphics clock rate, and toggle the Glide Vsync and Video Filter settings. I've also added a new checkbox that allows the user to enable or disable the graphics clock slider. This allows users not interested in overclocking to use the Vsync and Video Filter settings without being concerned with the graphics clock adjustment. Another addition is it now detects a missing graphics clock registry entry and uses the default clock rate for the Voodoo3 board you selected during installation if the entry is missing. This keeps confusion down when you reinstall or upgrade drivers and the graphics clock entry is deleted by the driver installation process. I hope all users of the Voodoo3 Overclocker will upgrade to this version.

PentiumGCC is a egcs (gcc) clone especially designed to optimize for x86 compatible chips. Speed improvements of 2-30% are possible. MMX support for P-II is being worked on.

After running the test on several TNT2-cards (there are still more to come later on) and four different clock speed versions of the 3Dfx Voodoo3, I've now included the Diamond Stealth III S540, based on S3's Savage4 chip. Unfortunately, the Savage4 scores as poorly as it already did in all other real world game benchmarks here in my lab. It can hardly reach TNT-scores, as you will see later. I've also added Voodoo2, Voodoo Banshee, TNT, Rage 128 and i752 now.

Al weer twee dagen oud, maar misschien toch nog interessant.

A truly fun game that deserves all the sales it gets, despite a few flaws I doubt anybody wouldn't want to have a go at least once, such is 'Expendables' appeal and scope.

Het goedkope draagbare spelertje van ZipAudio gaat het opnemen tegen de bekende Rio van Diamond of de Nomad van Creative. Het apparaat uit Singapore is echter een stuk goedkoper. De adviesprijs van de 64 Mb-versie bedraagt namelijk 99 dollar. De ZipMan komt in juli op de markt.

Anand heeft op de frontpage van AnandTech een plak info gepost over de problemen met de Savage4 in combinatie met socket7 AGP planken (Aladdin V en MVP3 chipsets):

S3 has had issues with the ALi Aladdin V chipset and the Savage4, and they currently do have an in-house work around for the problems. Unfortunately the work around results in a significant performance drop and we'll have to wait for updated drivers before we can enjoy full Super7 compatibility. Luckily, MVP3 users are in the clear. The old issues with the MVP3 and the Savage3D seemed to have completely disappeared with the Savage4, an unusual thing but true nonetheless.

I had a talk with S3 about the Savage4's poor Direct3D performance and it seems like the issues I ran into during the benchmarks were in fact driver related. S3 is going to try to have a new driver to me sometime next week that should address the problems I ran into. Hopefully that'll work out ok, and as usual I'll keep you updated.

FullOn3D heeft z'n review van de Elsa Erazor III geupdate met benchmarks van de nieuwe 1.76 drivers. Het is nu vrijwel zeker dat nVidia 3DNow! support in de drivers heeft verwerkt:

Update 1.76: No doubt about the power of 3DNow! anymore when it comes to driver acceleration in OpenGL! Almost 40% faster at 800x600x16 is the difference between a generation of 3D hardware, unleashed in software.

The TNT on the other hand has to pay dearly for the broken multitexturing support (that is expected to be fixed in a patch for Quake2) at 32 bit rendering at higher resolutions. None the less the solid gains at 16 bit could make it worthwhile to use 1.76 drivers anyway.

You start off the game by making your way out of the dungeon to find your lost love.

Beta Bites gooit er nog maar eens 'n Voodoo3 vs TNT image quality comparison tegenaan:

Through all the testing, I kept finding myself surprised all over again at the quality of images being produced by my old Canopus Spectra 2500. I certainly didn't expect to see such a difference between 16 and 32 bit color. I really believed that most of the bruhaha on the newsgroups, forums and websites was hype.

After doing all of this testing and comparing and pondering, I've come to the conclusion that Mr. Tamasi's statement about "22 bit" quality was generous.

The V3 is pretty, but the images produced by the Riva TNT at 32 bit were definitely of a higher graphic quality. I will allow that 10 bit depth levels is a BIG difference, but still...

...en dat is een conclusie die we al vaker gehoord hebben .

3DHardware.net heeft een Q3 performance and etcetera guide in elkaar geknutseld. K'weenie waarom-ie zo heet, want afgezien van een paar benchmarks weinig performance info. Wel een paar goede screenshots die 16/32-bit kleurdiepte en 256x256px / 512x512px textures vergelijken. De texture vergelijking laat weer duidelijk zien dat de V3 het niet van z'n beeldkwaliteit moet hebben...

Apache (dit weekend o.a. met Billy van VE op bezoek bij Epic) heeft een behoorlijk vette preview van Unreal Tournament geschreven. Hier z'n mening over de verbeterde graphics in UT:

The graphics that Unreal Tournament sports are to say at least revolutionary. The graphics are a marked improvement on Unreal 1. I only saw Unreal Tournament played on a Voodoo3. Epic says that the Voodoo3 is defiantly the card to play Unreal on. Another card that should work outstanding is the S3 Savage4 board. With the S3TC texture compression Unreal Tournament should really shine on the Savage4 card. It's expected that Unreal Tournament will ship with native glide support. Other API's that will be supported included Direct 3D, OpenGL, PowerVR, S3TC and advanced software rendering. The textures in Unreal Tournament are very elegent. One of the strong points of Unreal was the amazing textures in the levels. The artists really did an outstanding job of creating many realistic tex's. The pallete is very diverse and the variety is remarkable.
