Next Generation Online heeft wat info gekregen van Electronic Arts over hun nieuwe spel Inside Sports Car GT dat aan het eind van deze maand moet verschijnen voor de PC en de Playstation. Hier alvast wat uit het artikel:

Currently in development by Image Space and Westwood Studios Pacific, Sports Car GT's gameplay is based upon three different components: Career Mode, Quick Race, and Multiplayer. "Career Mode is our simulation mode," explained the spokesperson. "Players start in stock racing cars in the GTQ league and then progress to GT3, GT2, GT1, and World GT leagues. As they win races, they earn money which allows them to upgrade existing cars or buy new ones.

"Quick Race mode is more arcade in style. Players can race on any tracks they've opened up to date in Career Mode and customize the race lengths, turn damage on and off, or race against a mixed field of classes.

Dit spel lijkt qua concept dus verdacht veel op het Playstation spel Gran Turismo, maar dat kan natuurlijk alleen maar positief zijn.

Iedereen die wel eens 3D first person shooters speelt weet wel dat Half-Life een van de tofste zoniet de tofste first person shooter is. Dit spel wordt binnenkort zelfs nog beter met de gratis add-on Team Fortress Classic die je binnen een week of twee gratis moet kunnen gaan downloaden. Om daar vast op vooruit te lopen en alvast in een indruk te geven van deze add-on heeft Sierra, de maker van het spel, nu al een aantal screenshots en wat info op hun pagina staan over de add-on.

En ik kan na het bekijken maar één ding zeggen, en dat is dat deze add-on echt heel vet moet worden.

De april uitgave van het Nederlandse computerblad C'T ligt vanaf vandaag in de winkels.

De inhoud is deze keer onder andere:

Micro$oft ontkent het gerucht dat ze van plan zouden zijn om het complete Officepakket naar Linux te porten. Of dat de waarheid is is maar de vraag, ze claimden ook dat gebruikers niet bang hoefden te zijn dat M$ met Windows Update op computers zou rondsnuffelen...

Van begin af aan was er de vraag of Linuxfanaten wel zo zitten te wachten op Office voor Linux. Er zijn genoeg alternatieven (zowel open source als commercieel) en bovendien kiezen de meeste linuxgebruikers er juist bewust voor om geen M$ bloatware te gebruiken.

Volgens The Register zal de enorme vraag naar CD-R's deze zomer al leiden tot een tekort in heel Europa. Daardoor zouden de prijzen wel eens snel kunne gaan stijgen.

Nigel Lippard, managing director of Pine Technology, has predicted the situation will worsen for European consumers looking for top-level branded CDR media. He blamed falling hardware prices for the surge in demand.

"If demand continues to outstrip supply, we are looking at a real shortage of quality branded media in Europe until the summer at least," he said.

Lippard claims European CDR hardware sales could rise to around 500 million units in 1999, compared to last year's 300,000. This means Europe will be the hardest hit when supplies start to run out.

Krijgt de Buma/Stemra toch nog zijn zin.

Op ZDnet stond gisteren het bericht dat Kevin Mitnick, de uberhacker die verdacht wordt van een lange serie kraken, waarschijnlijk nog dit jaar vrijkomt als hij schuld bekent aan de criminele activiteiten die hem ten laste worden gelegd door Justitie. Dat heeft te maken met de idioot lange periode van voorarrest die hij heeft moeten doorstaan - 4 jaar.

In 1989, Mitnick was convicted for stealing computer programs and breaking into corporate networks, and served eight months of a one-year sentence. In April 1996, he pleaded guilty to possession of 15 or more unauthorized access devices (cloned cellular telephone numbers), and for violating supervised release, and was sentenced to 22-months in federal prison.

Based in part on his prior two convictions, Mitnick has been detained without bond since February 1995. The hacker's imprisonment without a bail hearing, combined with his prison restrictions, has generated a backlash among Mitnick supporters. Some critics have protested Mitnick's treatment by attacking websites and posting political messages-- the most recent earlier this month to a Monica Lewinsky website, and the most notable of which shutdown the New York Times's website for approximately nine hours last September.

Supporters van Mitnick voeren al een hele tijd actie tegen Justitie die het proces oneindig zou lopen rekken, maar ook Mitnick's advocaten (hij is nu aan zijn derde) hebben daar aan bijgedragen door steeds maar weer nieuwe informatie op te laten vragen die dan weer achtergehouden werd door Justitie.
