As we've already seen, AMD's 760 offers the best performance for gaming but lags a bit running content creation and office productivity benchmarks. Iwill's ALIi board seems to follow suit and is fractionally behind the 760. The potential is quite blatant, as we can see from the bandwidth scores, and it is likely that future iterations of the Athlon will further unlock the benefits of a 266MHz front side bus. Either way, if you're a new technology adopter, you'll already know this and have heard it a thousand times so please excuse this next little bit of advice for the unsuspecting newbies: don't expect miracles. If you're using a KT-133 PC-133 SDRAM platform, then upgrading to DDR isn't going to change your life nor is it going to double your frame rates. New technology takes a while to "break in" but for the time, yes it IS the faster platform providing more memory bandwidth.
[...] The board is still not a final rev so we can't make any final calls as of yet. The KA266-R and the ALi MAGiK 1 chipset still have some kinks to work out, but this is not surprising for an early rev. Still, we are impressed with ALi simply because, seemingly out of nowhere, they have shown up with a cutting edge chipset, and it looks like, despite their own delays and thanks to the delays of others, they will be the first to deliver a 266MHz DDR board to market this December. And we are impressed with Iwill since, from out of nowhere, they may be the first motherboard maker to ship a DDR motherboard to retail. Iwill still needs to iron a few bugs out, but we have seen the board progress a long way since its inception and we expect Iwill and ALi can handle the task.
