3dfx had a couple AAlchemy system boxes on display. They had two dual P3-800 systems going head to head, one with a 4-chip VSA-100 card, and the other with a GeForce2 Ultra. With 4X FSAA enabled on both systems, the 3dfx system outperformed the NVIDIA box by a very large margin in the Open GVS demo 3dfx showed us. Open GVS may be good and all, but we wanted to see numbers on a benchmark that we were a little more familiar with.Brandon was able to distract Bubba with a couple questions, and we managed to grab a few Quake 3 numbers off the Voodoo5 6000/P3-800E system. The card will never reach retail shelves, but we were still curious. All tests are in High Quality.
1024 w/o FSAA: 90fps
1024 2X FSAA: 89.3fps
1024 4X FSAA: 86.9fps
1600x1200 w/o FSAA: 68.2On a side note, we found the new 8X FSAA setting in the video display settings and we enabled it just to see how it looked. We saw an immediate difference in Quake 3. In all honesty, the game looked completely different. Maybe it was the way the players stood out against the level or the soft feel of the environment, but the game just looked different, smoother.[break]De Voodoo5 6000 technologie zal wel gebruikt worden door Quantum3D die er dit soort speeltjes van zal maken, speciaal voor de professionele markt:[/break]
