Gaim biedt ondersteuning voor een aantal verschillende instant messaging-netwerken. Hierdoor is het mogelijk om met verschillende gebruikers van deze IM-netwerken vanuit het zelfde programma contacten te onderhouden. Ondersteuning voor de netwerken van AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, Zephyr, SILC en GroupWise is aanwezig. Het ontwikkelteam heeft versie 1.1.4 sinds kort vrijgegeven met de volgende release notes:
Turns out 1.1.3 wasn't perfect. A lot of you using GLib 2.6 hit a crash on startup. Also, we missed a potential security bug identical to one fixed for 1.1.3. So, after one week, we bring you 1.1.4.
