Software-update: 7-Zip 24.04 bèta

Versie 24.04 van 7-Zip is uitgebracht, een ontwikkelversie. Dit opensource-archiveringsprogramma kan overweg met een groot aantal compressieformaten, waaronder zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm, deb en uiteraard het zelfontwikkelde 7z. Verder is de software in staat om iso-bestanden en nsis-installatiepakketten te openen. De changelog voor deze uitgave ziet er als volgt uit:

What's new after 7-Zip 24.03:

• New menu item in 7-Zip File Manager: "Tools / Delete Temporary Files...". This menu item opens a window showing temporary folders and files created by 7-Zip in the user's "Temp" folder on a Windows system. In this window, the user can delete temporary files.

Zover ik weet is dit een CLI ('terminal') versie en is er geen versie tegen met een grafische interface. Dat is niet aantrekkelijk voor de meeste gebruikers.

Ik gebruikt tegenwoordig de fork NanaZip. Die heeft wat meer features, maar de laatste release is (voor nu) nog uit 2022 (gebaseerd op 7z 23.01, plus andere forks ingevouwen). Ze zijn wel actief bezig met ontwikkeling.

Ik weet niet hoeveel hiervan sindsdien ook in 7z 24.x zit; ik heb de changelogs niet gevolgd.

Ik zie in deze lijst geen zaken die mij zouden kunnen doen besluiten om over te stappen. Qua ontwikkeling loopt het nog wel wat verder achter dan 7-Zip 23.01, want de laatste versie (2.0 Update 1 (2.0.450.0) dateert van November 2022, en met 7-Zip zijn we inmiddels alweer 5 versies verder.
