Software-update: Directory Opus 11.7

GPSoftware heeft versie 11.7 van zijn bestandsmanager Directory Opus uitgebracht. Dit programma is vergelijkbaar met Total Commander, maar dan met uitgebreidere mogelijkheden over welke informatie precies moet worden weergegeven en op welke manier. Het programma nestelt zich diep in Windows en is dan ook meer bedoeld als vervanger van Windows Verkenner.

Directory Opus is veelzijdig en extreem configureerbaar, zowel wat functionaliteit als wat uiterlijk betreft. Dat is meteen ook het grootste probleem, want het programma kan zeker op beginnende gebruikers complex overkomen. Directory Opus werkt op Windows XP en hoger, en is beschikbaar in een 32bit- en een 64bit-versie. Het programma kan 60 dagen worden getest; daarna moet een licentie van 89 Australische dollar worden aangeschaft, wat neerkomt op ongeveer 60 euro. Sinds versie 10.2 is er ook een minder uitgebreide versie, die net geen 33 euro kost. De changelog voor versie 11.7 ziet er als volgt uit:

• Scripting changes:
  • Added locked property to the Format script object to retrieve the format lock state.
  • Script configuration variables can now include multi-line strings. To do this, set the variable's default value in OnInit to a string containing a CR/LF pair (or just a CR/LF pair by itself if you want the default value to be empty).
  • A script's configuration variables can now have descriptions assigned to them which are displayed in the configuration editor, using the new config_desc property of the ScriptInitData object.
  • If an OnBeforeFolderChange script runs Go BACK in response to a Go BACK command, the history position would end up wrong (you would actually end up two folders back instead of one).
• Fixed problem with the Run Now option when a copy job is queued.
• The way the Rating column was sorted had inadvertently changed - this has been returned to its original behavior.
• Timestamps in RAR archives could be shifted by the current GMT offset (when using UnRAR.dll instead of 7z.dll for RAR).
• Fixed the Folder Formats Labels page enable/disable state not being saved to disk.

Mijn belangrijkste programma op de desktop-pc.
Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat Microsoft de ellende met Windows 8 snel te boven is
met een Windows Verkenner in Windows 9 die lijkt op Directory Opus.

Poeh, ze gaan wel hard met het versienummer. Ze willen vast dat we gaan dokken voor versie 12. Normaal kon je wel een tijdje voort met een major versie maar nu zitten ze in een half jaar al op 11.7.
