Skype heeft ook voor Windows versie 6.0 van zijn voip-client uitgebracht. Met Skype is het mogelijk om door middel van tekst, spraak of beeld, of een combinatie daarvan, via een internetverbinding met andere Skype-gebruikers te communiceren. Ook is het mogelijk om met maximaal tien personen een videoconferencecall op te zetten, maar hiervoor is wel een Premium Subscription nodig. Verder is de Facebook News Feed in het programma geïntegreerd en is er Skype Home, een plek waar je onder meer je stemming kunt aangeven, je profiel kunt wijzigen en nieuwe contacten kunt vinden.
In Skype, dat tegenwoordig van Microsoft is, is nu een koppeling gemaakt naar de Microsoft- en Facebook-accounts, zodat chatten met Windows Live- en Facebook-gebruikers mogelijk is. Gesprekken voeren kan nog niet, maar daar wordt aan gewerkt. Verder heeft de gebruikersinterface een opfrisbeurt gekregen en zijn de vertalingen verbeterd.

We have removed the online user counter at the bottom of your Skype Contacts list to unclutter the UI and make more space for your friends within the contacts list.- Display previously created profile pictures
When you change your profile picture, we will now show you all of your previous Skype profile pictures so you don't have to look through old files if you want to use a previous image.- Improved telemetry
We are constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of our product. To that end we are adding additional "opt-in" telemetry reports for users who choose this option: "Tools>> Options>>Advanced>>Tick "Help improve Skype..." The reports may contain your Skype ID and or Microsoft Account ID but we will not use it to identify or contact you.
