De vierde en mogelijk laatste release candidate van versie 8.01 van Total Commander is uitgekomen. Dit programma kan als vervanging voor Windows Verkenner worden gebruikt. Doordat het beeld in tweeën is gesplitst, is het eenvoudig om bestanden te kopiëren, maar het programma kan veel meer. Zo zijn er diverse manieren om bestanden aan te passen, zijn er een ingebouwde ftp-client en een multi-renametool aanwezig, en is er ondersteuning voor een groot aantal compressieformaten. Verder kan de functionaliteit met plug-ins worden uitgebreid. Sinds versie 8.00 zijn er aparte downloads voor 32bit- en 64bit-omgevingen. Versie 8.01 bevat alleen bugfixes.

- Internal associations: When context menu is opened while multiple file types are selected, check more filters if the first doesn't match all files, e.g. *.c doesn't match, but *.c *.h further down matches all selected files (32/64)
- Removed: Default beep on ENTER in inplace rename box (64)
- Edit current path: Avoid that the in place edit box gets invoked twice (32/64)
- New delete function: Also hide "Pause" button so the user doesn't pause the operation with Del+Enter (32/64)
- Also adjust the width of the text field in FTP delete confirmation dialog for very long names with no spaces (32/64)
