Software-update: Pidgin 2.7.11

Pidgin is bijgewerkt naar versie 2.7.11. Deze versie was al een paar dagen op het internet te vinden, maar is nu ook officieel op de website van Pidgin zelf verschenen. Dit multiprotocol-instantmessagingprogramma kan overweg met de netwerken van AIM, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, Google Talk, Groupwise, ICQ, irc, MSN, MySpaceIM, QQ, Silc, Simple, Sametime, XMPP, Yahoo en Zephyr. Tijdens de installatie kan uit maar liefst zeventig verschillende talen worden gekozen en kan spellingscontrole worden toegevoegd. Binaries zijn beschikbaar voor Windows, maar de broncode kan onder Linux worden gecompileerd. Het programma is ook prima in Gnome en de KDE SC te integreren. De Mac OS X-port wordt uitgebracht onder de naam Adium. Het changelog van deze release ziet er als volgt uit:

General:

• Our bundled libgadu should now build on HP-UX.
• Fix some instances of file transfers never completing. (Cristi Posoiu) (#12472)

Pidgin:

• Sort by Status no longer causes buddies to move around when you click them.
• Fix embedding in the system tray on older GTK+ releases (such as on CentOS 5.5 and older Fedora).
• No longer require libstartup-notification for startup notification support. GTK+ has included support for years, so use it instead. (David Benjamin) (#13245)

AIM:

• Fix a bug where some buddies from your buddy list might not show up. Affected non-English ICQ users the most. (#13386)
• Send keepalives for all types of network connections. Will hopefully make chat rooms more reliable. (#1449)

MSN:

• Fix bug that prevented added buddies to your buddy list in certain circumstances. (#13298)

XMPP:

• Fix building on platforms with an older glib (inadvertantly broken in 2.7.10). (#13329)
• Don't treat the on-join status storms as 'new arrivals'. (Thijs Alkemade) (#a14527)
• Extend the /join command to support room JIDs, enabling you to join a room on any server. (Solarius, Matej Cepl, Tirtha 'wyuka' Chatterjee) (#4526)

Yahoo!/Yahoo! JAPAN:

• Fix CVE-2011-1091, denials of service caused by NULL pointer dereferences due to improper handling of malformed YMSG packets. Thanks to Marius Wachtler for reporting this and reviewing the fix!

Is die MSN bug nu al opgelost dat custom emoticons niet worden over geheveld. in de 2.7.5 zat die er nog niet in vanaf de 2.7.6 zit die bug erin. Al meerdere keren gemeld op de Pidgin dev-site.

Lijkt er niet op. Daarnaast lijkt de MSN-bug wat avatardownloads betreft lijkt ook nog steeds niet verholpen te zijn. Jammer.

Goed dat dit er is, één messenger voor meerdere messaging protocols. Helaas heeft Ubuntu inmiddels een ander IM client. Verder mis ik bepaalde functionaliteit die Yahoo messenger voor Windows wel heeft, daarmee kun je ook een voice-gesprek of een video-gesprek voeren. Dat is erg populair bij Filipina's

Ik neem aan dat je je wel realiseert dat bij Ubuntu en tig andere distro's Pidgin gewoon in de package repositories aanwezig is? Je kunt 'm zo installeren, of anders van source af compileren. (Hint: apt-get install pidgin).
