Dinsdag is er voor de tweede keer in korte tijd een nieuwe bèta van het fotobewerkingsprogramma Paint.NET uitgebracht. Paint.NET heeft minimaal versie 3.5 SP1 van het .NET Framework nodig en werkt daardoor alleen op Windows XP of hoger. Bijwerken kan bij voorkeur vanuit het programma zelf, maar downloaden is ook een optie. In versie 3.5 heeft de gebruikersinterface een opfrisbeurt gekregen. Zo zijn er nieuwe iconen en kan het op Windows Vista en 7 van Aero gebruikmaken. Verder zijn er diverse nieuwe effecten, start het programma sneller op en is de text-tool volledig herschreven. De belangrijkste verandering in deze release is dat er een probleem is verholpen met het opslaan onder een nieuwe naam:

This build is not available via the built-in updater. There is no need to uninstall your old version; that will be taken care of automatically. You can also reinstall v3.5.3 if you need to, in case this v3.5.4 beta is cranky.
I was hoping I wouldn't need another update, especially so soon, but an issue with File -> Save As was reported and it's honestly important. See the discussion here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=33660
Reproducing this is easy,
1. Start up Paint.NET
2. Open any image, we'll call this A.
3. Open another image from a different folder. We'll call this B.
4. Switch back to the first image.
5. File -> Save As
In previous versions, and according to both expectation and convention, the Save As dialog should start up from the folder that A was opened from. Instead, it opens up from B's folder. If you aren't paying strict attention (and honestly you shouldn't need to) you could save "A" under a new name but then not be able to find it because it's not where you thought you put it!
Stated more generically, the Save As dialog always starts up in the same directory that any previous Open or Save dialog was closed from.
This build also fixes a crash in a few plugins related to their "Open" dialogs. Namely, pyrochild's Color Match ( viewtopic.php?f=16&t=25300 ).
