Skype heeft zojuist een betarelease van de Windows-variant van het gelijknamige VoIP-programma vrijgegeven. Met dit programma, wat ook voor Linux en Mac OS X beschikbaar is, kan gratis met andere gebruikers van dit programma worden gesproken. Ook kan er een abonnement worden genomen (SkypeOut), zodat bellen naar vaste-, mobiele- en buitenlandse nummers mogelijk is. Het versienummer van deze beta is 2.0.0.43 en de sprong van 1.4 naar 2.0 verraad dat het om een grote verandering gaat. Zo is het nu onder andere mogelijk om videochats te houden en kunnen contacten in groepen worden gestopt. Het volledige changelog ziet er als volgt uit:
