Het blijkt dat de bug alleen in de oudere Katmai-PIII's zit, en dus niet in de nieuwe Coppermines. Verder is het bugje (of erratum in Intel jargon) al opgelost door aanpassingen in het BIOS

Truth: Intel claims that the erratum is a rare anomaly and is only true under limited conditions. While it is true, Intel also pointed out to me that it did not affect the new Coppermine® with 0.18-micron technology, only older P-IIIs with the coarser 0.25-micron technology.
Conclusion? No bug. The erratum was fixed in most manufacturers' motherboards in the form of BIOS updates awhile back for the P-III according to Intel. So for now, the erratum can be dismissed as simply rumor and nothing more. If you are experiencing abnormal behavior in your Pentium III however, Intel suggests that you may want to visit your motherboard's manufacturer's website and download a recent flash update for the BIOS to ensure full P-III compatibility.

Fellow named Valkin tells me that he found from a rep that HotRail (nee Poseidon, I recall) dual and quad chipsets (for the Athlon) will be released in Q1 next year, possibly as early as January. Well, this is quite a bit more appealing than the previous rumours, which suggested a delay all the way to the middle of the year. Of course (as we already know), Tyan is expected to be the first company to market dual-capable boards for K7 variants.

De conclusie van deze korte review is kort. De MSI 6163Pro was al een van mijn favoriete BX-moederborden. Juist de dingen die we nog misten en waarvoor we een ander moederbord zouden willen aanschaffen (een ASUS P3B voor het 6de PCI-slot, een ABIT BE6(-II) voor de Ultra ATA/66 controller of een Gigabyte BX2000 voor het 4de DIMM-slot) heeft MSI nu prachtig geïntegreerd op de opvolger. De titel "ultieme BX moederbord" geldt vanaf nu ZEKER voor de BX Master.

Nu de i820 chipset eindelijk op de markt komt, kunnen we er vrij zeker van zijn dat dit een van de laatste BX moederborden zal zijn. Alle fabrikanten zullen zich vanaf nu gaan focussen op de nieuwe generatie moederborden. Toch is de aankoop van een moederbord met BX chipset nog steeds verantwoord. Door de vele problemen met de 820 chipset lijkt het mij verstandig om wat die chipset betreft nog even de kat uit de boom te kijken. Uit tests van collega hardware websites blijkt dat de 820 chipset met standaard SD-Ram minder goed presteert dan de BX chipset. Hardwareinfo.net zal zich vanaf nu wat meer gaan focussen op de 820 chipset en binnenkort kun je hier lezen hoe de verschillende 820 moederborden presteren.

Tot die tijd kan ik iedereen die een Celeron of Pentium III wil kopen dit nieuwe BX moederbord van harte aanraden. Aangezien de MSI 6163Pro al een Hardwareinfo.net Recommended Hardware award kreeg moet de BX Master deze award natuurlijk ZEKER krijgen! MSI: bij deze!

Due to the immense hype about the product, I was led to believe that it would boast some technological feat. At the back of my mind, I was probably expecting it to be foldable, transformable or maybe be able to glow in the dark! At first glance, the Large Attack Pad is basically a black oval chopping board with a portion chipped off at the bottom. The sides of it are curved and smoothed. A large logo of Quake III Arena is boldly printed on the surface. It actually looks like something taken off from a Batman movie. The bottom of the Pad sports six rubber stops for a firm grip on the desktop. It may sound odd, but a chopping board is the best way to describe the textured surface of the Attack Pad. But Mum's chopping board never looked this kewl…. The Attack Pad is virtually indestructible as it's made of a very hard plastic. Washing it with soap is not a problem as it dries easily and does not absorb moisture. The Attack Pad sports fine even bumps on its surface and they provide the mouse with a good tactile surface. This is also the reason why a regular kitchen chopping board will not do as a mousing surface. A regular chopping board possesses an irregular surface and mouse movements can be rather unpredictable. Dirt and gunk will fall through the depressions on the surface while the mouse travels on the bumps. This reduces the accumulation of dirt particles on the mouse ball and rollers.

Anand heeft eindelijk zijn review van de GeForce 256 met Double Data Rate SDRAM online geplaatst. In zijn conclusie raadt Anand aan de SDRAM versie links te laten liggen en probeer voor de DDR versie te gaan. Het extra geld is het wel waard:

The DDR GeForce is everything we expected from the original GeForce, unfortunately its high price tag will keep it out of the hands of many. The performance of the DDR GeForce so completely shadows that of the SDR version that it almost makes no sense to opt for the SDR version.

With the price difference between the two measuring out to be around $100 or less your best bet is to either opt for the DDR GeForce or wait until prices drop and go after the DDR version. The SDR version does not perform at a high enough level in high resolution situations to justify the already high price tag of the card.

The DDR cards are just now becoming available on the market, and in a few months time even they will be outperformed by what NVIDIA likes to call their "Spring Refresh," which is basically the next product in their 6-month product cycle calendar. The next NVIDIA product, codenamed NV15, should boast a more powerful T&L engine (the number 15 million triangles/s comes to mind) as well as a higher fill rate.

What will become of DDR memory as a performance booster in video cards then? It would be a smart move by NVIDIA to make their NV15 a DDR product and leave SDR memory a thing of the past, either that or increase the memory bus width, the latter seems unlikely though. While the prospect of the NV15 being a DDR product also possibly equally as unlikely it makes the most sense for NVIDIA's next generation product to offer a significant advantage over their current generation.

De P125 werd meer gebruikt maar had een probleem dat Alpha nu heeft opgelost. Deze heatsink is namelijk geschikt (zonder knutsel werk zoals een artikel op tweakers van begin december) voor de K7M rev 1.04. Het probleem met de powerconnector is opgelost door een hoekje uit de heatsink te laten. De heatsink heeft embedded koper zodat de nog warmte beter wordt afgegeven (zoals de P3125 al had). De heatsink heeft een waarde van 0,215 °C/W bij expulsion type en 60 mm fans.":

Tot grote verrassing van de concurrentie verlaagde geheugenchipmaker Kingston Technology deze week de prijzen voor geheugenmodules met een substantiële hoeveelheid. De merkloze, of 'witte product' PC-100 SDRAM's werden 51 procent goedkoper. Voor chips bestemd voor gebruik in printers of merken waren de prijsdalingen kleiner: 20 à 30 procent. Merkwaardig is dat Kingston vooral de prijs van de 128-MB PC-100 SDRAM-modules sterk heeft verlaagd. De kostprijs van een 64-MB module bedraagt momenteel 95 dollar, die van 128 MB 125 dollar. Voor dubbel zo veel geheugen betaal je dus maar 30 dollar of 31 percent meer. Het gaat hier wel om groothandelprijzen, per duizend eenheden. Kingston is de grootste fabrikant van geheugenmodules, en andere producenten zullen weinig keus hebben dan de prijsverlagingen te volgen. Zij verkopen niet direct aan het publiek, maar toch wordt verwacht dat deze dalingen zich zullen vertalen naar lagere eindgebruikersprijzen. Analisten vermoeden zelfs dat dit slechts het startschot is van een regelrechte prijzenoorlog. Wat natuurlijk goed nieuws is voor de gebruiker. Met Windows 2000 aan de horizon zal iedereen baat hebben aan goedkoop geheugen.
