Joe D'Elia, senior semiconductor analyst at Dataquest Europe, pointed out that AMD has a lot on its plate at the moment. "They've got to maintain K6-2, the K6-III and get the K7 out, plus they're doing mobile versions. Buying Cyrix, however, would give them a proven design technology. They'd buy a name and a design team with an innovative set of products, which is what they did with NexGen."He speculated that ST Microelectronics might also be interested, following rumours that it has fallen out with the x.86 core company Metaware it was wooing last year. "They could do with that design team," he said.
Samsung could also be a contender, D'Elia thought. "They might just realise that Alpha won't be a ten million a year product," he said.

I really hate to sound too impressed by any product, but the FPS2000 is absolutey awesome for movies. I popped Blade in the DVD player, and ruinined my planned testing procedure by watching the movie the whole way through. I was just completely engrossed by it, largely because the sound was fantastic. I turned the volume up (both in software and hardware) to the point where it began to distort a little, then backed it down a notch. When my wife came in to ask me to turn it down, I had to pause the movie to understand her.
Released MBM 4.05 with the following features: Added support for: ADM 9240 (1 temperature, voltage and fan chip) ADM 1021 (2 temperatures chip), all possible 9 MAX 1617 (2 temperatures chip), all possibile 9 MAX 1617a (2 temperatures chip), all possible 9 Fixed a very very strange bug that would cause some Abit BX6 rev 2 users (3 up to now) to crash their machine. Fixed a bug users reported about the User.exe Fixed FanTemp callibration error - thanks Jonathan Teh Fixed a few small layout problems with foreign language's MBM will start up now even if no Voltage/Fan chip is found, so users with only an LM75, ADM 1021 or MAX 1617 can still start the program.
This mainboard belongs to the company, which won the fame among numerous overclockers. It is based on an i440BX chipset full-version and has 5 PCI-slots, 2 ISA-slots and 3 DIMM-slots. So many slots provide good expandability of the system on ABIT BM6. But even taking into account their number the developers hardly faced any problems when locating them on the board due to its full-size ATX-format. The coolest distinctive feature of all ABIT mainboards including BM6 is SoftMenu II. This technology allows to change CPU configuration through BIOS Setup. Besides, SoftMenu II makes it possible to change the processor core voltage, which is of great use for CPU overclocking. Of course, the mainboard supports a wide range of FSB frequencies, including 100MHz. Moreover, we should also draw your attention to high performance rates shown by this board.
HardOCP heeft weer errug lekkere overclockers info gepost. Ze hebben een Leadtek TNT2 zwaar onderhanden genomen. De pics en info spreken voor zich.
Where did this get us and was it totally necessary to do this? Necessary? Hell no, but it was fun and it sure looks cool! To use this size heatsink on the card we have sacrificed the two adjacent PCI slots. All the cooling junk also cost about $35. Here is the kicker. It did allow us to bring the operating temperature down from right at 140 degrees F to close to 105 degrees F. This allowed us to feasibly clock the the core at 170MHz. That is over a 17% increase in core speed. We were able to clock the memory to a stable 175MHz. That gave us over a 14% increase in memory speed. Pretty dang cool eh?

On the press released I notice that there is MPEG 2 DVD support, but I do not notice any notice of S/PDIF out. Does this mean that the card will not be able to support Dolby AC-3 support? What we are doing with the DVD support is SoftDVD support, offering the same level of DVD support that you can get with other Voodoo3 cards.
60 frames per second vs. 30 frames per second has been one of the most contested ideas around the web and in print for the last year. Today we will look to see who is right, who is wrong, and who is just plain confused.Chipmaker (and now boardmaker) 3dfx has been evangelizing gaming at 60 fps since the Voodoo 2 was released. Many have looked down upon 3dfx for this due to the common misconception that humans cannot distinguish framerates over 30 fps, so what is the point of having visuals running at 60 fps? Misconception you say? Yes. In this article we will look behind the technology of games, computers, movies, and television and the physiology and neuro-ethology of the human visual system.
Voxel processing is by no means all there is to the graphics on Tiberian Sun. The game will also feature dynamic lighting, colored lighting and a maximum resolution of 800x600 (very welcome after the 640x480 barrier on the earlier C&C titles). The lighting effects on the night-time missions- including the eerie glow of the tiberium- are a pleasure to behold.
The night-time missions are cool in the first place, anyway, since visibility is halved and you need to use searchlights- another fascinating bit of eye-candy.
We zullen zien...
Even with all these precautions there is still one huge difference between seeing the real output and using a screenshot. The real output from a 3D accelerator is moving; it's not static when you play. Motion has a huge impact on the visual perception of an image that a single static screenshot can never convey. Some artifacts are only noticeable in moving images. One example of such an artifact is the problem with moiré patterns and aliasing. Basically both effects create moving artifacts and they are not so noticeable in single static shots. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to solve this problem. The storage space available to most online sites is limited and the download bandwidth is in short supply. For this reason the only true way to judge image quality acceptability is to look at the real thing. If that's impossible you will have to go for the screenshot technique described earlier.

Environment Mapped Bump Mapping is a DirectX 6 quality feature which will be used to substantially increase the visual realism of 3D scenes. In fact, 3D graphics hardware that supports this feature will be able to render 3D scenes with more realism than was ever before possible on the PC. Environment Mapped Bump Mapping is essentially a technique that allows a much higher level of detail to be added to a 3D world than could be possible with texture- mapped polygons alone. Fine details such as the pockmarked surface of bricks in a dungeon and scratches on robots and tanks can be added with ease. Special effects such as realistic water surfaces, heat shimmering off hot asphalt on a summer day and air turbulence in flight simulators can also be uniquely accomplished by using Environment Mapped Bump Mapping. This new feature will prove to be as revolutionary as alpha blending in terms of the creative effects that game developers will accomplish when given free rein. With the advent of the Matrox G400 as the first chip to support Environment Mapped Bump Mapping in hardware, game developers are quickly pledging to add support for this feature into cutting-edge games that will ship in 1999 (see below). Environment Mapped Bump Mapping can be used in various ways to add compelling effects to a 3D scene.

The first shot is pretty self-explanatory, the second and third shots shows my character, after picking up an invisibility -- if you look closely towards the bottom of the screen, you can kind of make out my weapons. The invisible effect in UT looks extremely cool (think of the movie "Predator" and you're pretty much there). I'm going to do what I can to get my p/review of Unreal Tournament up prior to E3. It all depends on how much my p1mp works me.These shots were taking on a Pentium2 400MHz with (I think) 128Mb of RAM, and a Voodoo3 3000. I ran smoother than a cheerleaders thigh! Seriously, it ran VERY smoothly (and I mean VERY). I looked over the shoulder on somebody playing it on a P2 300 (not sure how much RAM, and I believe just a Dual V2), and it ran just about as smooth. VERY playable. I can't believe it, but the system requirements almost seem to have dropped (don't quote me on that, just an observation). Incredible stuff Epic!

Once you get your hands on it, and place your fingers on the appropriate triggers, you begin to see it. Its like a 7000 watt bulb going off inside your eyeball when your first start playing an actual game. The feel can only be described as Natural. The opposing forces of left and right make it much easier to get precision shots, and the layout of the buttons make thumb movements for strafing so easy, you forget your doing it after a few games.
Hmm, schijnbaar toch een prettige pretstok. . .
Could this award go to any other company? The BX6 Revision 2 is the absolute best motherboard for overclockers. Supporting a wide variety of FSB frequencies and sporting the ability to adjust the CPU core voltage of any installed processor, the BX6 Rev2 is the hands-down winner in this category.
Uiteraard ![]()
Hyundai Electronics America has started mass production of phase-locked-loop clock drivers and Advanced Low-Voltage CMOS memory registers for PC-133/100 registered Dual In-line Memory Modules. Interactive Magic will be publishing the game worldwide in Q2. Stay tuned.
Check www.jc-news.com/pc/ :
I probably should try to clear up some of the confusion relating to NSM's major wimpout this past week. Basically, what's happening is that NSM decided to sell Cyrix, packaged with their Portland Fab (which had been making Cyrix's chips). A sale hasn't been made, though there are, it seems, a few hopefuls. Most people seem to think that IBM is the biggest prospect -- they kinda should be in the x86 market, it seems to suit them. I heard one fellow pushing for Samsung, I guess that's a possibility. Anyway, just to get some stuff straight: Cyrix is still working (even though certain key people to NSM have been pulled, that's only natural in this circumstance), there's even a reasonable chance of continued ramping. If there is a sale, they'll still exist. There may be a hit, time-wise, to their production schedule, but it likely wouldn't be severe since their main x86 fab is being sold with them. That's all I have to say about that.
When you put as much faith in a product line as consumers have given Abit's B-6 models of main boards, you want answers when the products fail to meet the needs of the users. Abit's original BX6 and the LX6 before it were fantastic performers, so what had gone wrong with the BX6 2.0? Even before we had a chance to ask Abit, they had an answer. I have spent the last few weeks torturing the Abit BX6 2.2 (also known as the 2.02) to see if Abit's answer was a sufficient one. After all, Abit had quite a bit running on the BX6 2.0's success, and and when it failed to deliver as promised people began to take notice, including myself. We weren't so much interested in benchmarked speed as we were in stability and fixed problems. What we found in the process was a renewed faith in Abit boards. Without going into the gory details (this is just an update after all), no matter whet we threw at the 2.0 it still booted and ran without error. We tried 20+ combinations of PCI cards and our only real finding was that the SB Live! PCI sound card preferred to be in either slot 2, 3, or 4 on the PCI bus. Aside from that snag we had no problems with random reboots. Pioneer DVD players also seemed to work well and were detected as normal, the CPU temperature sensor worked as expected, as was never more than a few degrees different than an adjacent sensor monitored by the SuperCooler.
I brought the receiver onto my desk, about one foot from the devices, and things worked just fine. However alot of people have unshielded sattelites as well as subwoofers... And the interference that this results in may be unacceptable. But if you try, you should be able to find a spot where there is no interference, as I did.Another problem, which would seem unlikely considering the devices in question, is bandwidth. Yes it's true. The receiver can only seem to process about 5 keys + mouse movement + 1 mouse click at a time. While this problem rarely shows up in a game of say, HalfLife or StarCraft, games such as Expendable where two players can play on the same keyboard results in a horrid mess of spinning in circles firing your guns and keys locking up. Any two-players-on-one-keyboard type game should be avoided at all costs on this set.
Since the P2B-LS uses the BX chipset, it contains an AGP and supports any bus speed from 50MHZ to 133MHZ. It also has CPU multipliers up to 6x which should keep up with all of Intel's future Slot 1 processors. But who knows, as newer processors are released, this may be different. This motherboard seems to be a very good one to use for overclocking, with it's 6x clock multiplier, and it's ability to run stable at 133 Mhz with the right CAS 2 latency SDRAM. This board contains 4-DIMM slots which allows you to have up to 1024 Megabytes of RAM. That is probably more than you will ever need, but who knows a few years from now.
