The TSP, as the name implies, performs standard texturing and shading operations using texture co-ordinates and RGB iterators of visible polygons as inputs. As only visible polygons are processed, texture bandwidth is only a fraction of conventional polygon based graphics processors when depth complexity is more than one. For the same reason, the number of polygons that need to be rendered per scene is also a fraction of that of conventional accelerators. The upshot of this is that the fillrate of the PowerVR 250 chip that is needed to achieve equivalent framerates in a uni-texture game with a depth complexity greater than unity is a fraction of a polygon based chip.

We can see that at these high resolutions the performance takes quite a hit, there's not much point into running your Celeron at an unstable 504 Mhz. Neither with Riva TNT nor with a a SLI-setup running at 800x600x16 or 1024x768x16. The Riva is just not scaling to well beyond 300 MHz, and the VooDoo2 SLI setup can be pushed a bit further with a upped core-MHz. The SupaChilled 600 MHz Celeron again really shows some real muscle, although the gap between 504 Mhz and 600 Mhz isn't that big. This is really where we are pushing the VooDoo's and the TNT too hard, we will see better scaling of the performance with the next generation of 3D accelerators.

Of course, all of this racket has a purpose - with that default Celery fan, while clocked at 458MHz, my CPU temperature was a quite respectable 34°C at idle, and generally never exceeded 45°C, even after a hard Unreal workout (although, one day, when it was 40°C in my room, the CPU did reach a sizzling 55°C). Perhaps, though, at 550MHz, it was overheating too quickly for windows to even load. Voodoo3 supports 2 types of post filters. One filter is the old Voodoo2 filter, this filter delivers hi-speed average quality images. One typical artifact from this filter is the horizontal lines seen in many on-line screenshots. Since many people complained about this artifact after the release of Voodoo2, the engineers from 3dfx decide to implement a new, better filter. This new filter is slightly slower (should be hardly noticeable) but delivers much better image quality.

De maker van het Melissa-virus, David L. Smith, is voorgeleid voor de rechtbank in New Jersey. Blitz3D heeft de resultaten gepost van hun poging de Voodoo 3 2000 over te clocken.

As you can see, the V3 2000 couldn't muster 174 MHz for very long, and it didn't come close to pulling 183 MHz. At 166 MHz, however, the card runs flawlessly. A word of warning: this chip runs blazes hot. If you plan on fooling around with the MHz, stick a fan on the chip. I use a 486 fan, which does an excellent job of cooling the thing down to tolerable levels (although it does wank a PCI slot). Screwing things to your heatsink voids the warranty!

Bij GA Source hebben ze benchmarks van de aanstaande Neon 250 PowerVR serie. Alleen zijn deze wel door Videologic zelf aangeleverd en niet door een onafhankelijke bron, dus het is maar de vraag hoe objectief ze zijn.

Voor degenen die het imac design wel grappig vinden, maar zich niet met ge-maccer in willen laten, is er een oplossing in zicht.

Dell CEO Michael Dell has confirmed the company will offer a Wintel-based iMac clone. Speaking at a press conference organised to persuade the industry and Wall Street that his company's long run of major revenue growth was finally beginning to slow down, Dell said the machine would ship in the next 12-18 months.

Interviewed earlier this year, Dell said the iMac had been a "wake-up call for the PC industry", a line he re-emphasised yesterday.

Fast Graphics heeft een review van de Voodoo 3 3000. Ze zijn gematigd positief.

When we take a look under the hood of Voodoo 3 we don't see really stunning new features. Basically what 3dfx did was pack the best of both worlds into a single chip. The base 2D core of the Banshee chipset is found back in the Voodoo 3, and the 3D part is pretty much equivalent to a Voodoo II SLI, at least performance wise. Unfortunately 3dfx didn't care to support 32 bits rendering claiming that it costs too much performance. But with a chipset that can crunch polygons at this speed, I would have liked to be able to choose for the slower gameplay in return for the superior image quality. A hangover from the Banshee chipset is the memory limit which is set at 16 MB. Together with the lack of AGP Direct Memory Execution support, this gets one wondering about the performance in games with large textures... Only time will tell if this is really a problem.

The Soyo D6IBA2 utilizes Intel's 440BX chipset along with Adaptec's AIC-7890 & AIC-3860 SCSI chipset for its on-board SCSI functions. It has a total of three SCSI ports on-board, which includes 50-pin Ultra SCSI , 68-pin Ultra Wide SCSI and lastly, a 68-pin Ultra2 SCSI. The Ultra2 SCSI port supports Low Voltage Differental devices. Obviously, it has dual CPU support which will take either a Celeron or Pentium II or III CPU. At this time, you might know that you can modify a Socket 370 to Slot 1 riser card along with a Socket 370 CPU for forced dual CPU support. This would bring a new dimension to high-performance low cost computing. Since this would be a high-end motherboard, it has included 4 DIMM slots. The temperature sensors are right under the heatsink of the CPU. Instead of obtaining the CPU temperature from the cooling fan itself, an external sensor will be in contact with your CPU's heatsink.

The thing is that these mainboards turned out to have SoftMenu - a part of BIOS Setup available, for example on ABIT mainboards, which allows to achieve the same effect - to change FSB frequency and CPU clock multiplier - by pressing a couple of buttons. However, this fantastic feature is blocked on ASUS mainboards. But one of our friends managed to develop a cool BIOS patch enabling this feature.

Blijft de vraag waarom Asus wel Softmenu support in een mobo bouwt, maar er geen BIOS support voor geeft.

We have often heard the word "amazing" spoken in the same breath with Heretic2 : EP in A3D 2.0 mode. However, is it really that amazing ? My short answer to that question is ..... yes, it definitely sounds better than the default sound setup but I wouldn't really called it amazing. What's more important is that with all the hype surrounding wavetracing, Heretic 2:EP is the perfect material for us to have an indepth look at wavetracing and acoustic modelling. Does wavetracing really model the acoustic environment competently and realistically ?
