Kryotech reduceert SuperG produktiekosten

Kryotech maakt in een press release bekend dat het de produktiekosten van haar supergekoelde SuperG Athlon barebones 'significant' verlaagd heeft. De SuperG met 1GHz Athlon zal vanaf heden voor 1800 dollar verkocht worden:

Effective today, March 8, 2000, the retail price of the SuperG is reduced to $1,800 for the complete barebones system, including the custom ATX chassis, motherboard, AMD Athlon processor thermally accelerated to 1 GHz, KryoTech -40C cooling system, and a heavy duty 300 watt power supply. At this price you can build a complete SuperG system at the same price as the limited availability systems that will be coming from some of the Tier 1 OEMs. In addition to the attractive price and current availability versus room temperature GHz chips, the SuperG has superior upgradeability over the room temperature systems. Rest de vraag wat we aan een supergekoelde 1GHz Athlon hebben als we er al eentje met normale koeling kunnen kopen.

tsjaa, dat gaat helaas niet omdat de Athlon maar een maximale multiplier van 10,5 heeft dus verder als 1050 zul je nooit komen. Bovendien moet je dan solderen omdat er geen Goldfinger oppast ivm Kryocave omhulsel om CPU heen.

Al met al kun je dus misschien 10,5 x 115 (op MSI bordje) halen en dat is 1207 mhz (mager)

Als je graag alleen een lege kast met een plank en proc hebt.

Voor fl.2500,- kun je de additionele hardware wel kopen dus in totaal toch zo'n fl.500,- piek goedkoper. Heb je natuurlijk ook nog een veel mooiere kast, namelijk eentje met super kooling. Omdat de kryotech de processorwarmte goed afvoert blijft je hele kast koeler en kun je de VGA kaart ook beter overklokken.
De kryotech kast kun je natuurlijk ook voor je volgende processor gebruiken. Zo'n kast gaat net als een koelkast wel tien jaar mee. Het is alleen de vraag in hoeverrre je de koeling op de toekomstige moederborden en processoren kunt aansluiten, zonder zelf te moeten knutselen.

ja ik vind dit wel bikkel, nu kan je toch gewoon de kast leeg maken en er een 1 ghz athlon ik drukken. die laat je dan op 1300 mhz lopen of zo.. beter toch?

Draait die Kryotech nou niet ook nog op 2/5 cache divider? Zou hij dan niet sneller moeten zijn dan een 'gewone' Athlon 1000, omdat die op 1/3 cache divider loopt?

Jammer dat de overklokbaarheid van deze beestjes waarschijnlijk niet zo hoog ligt!
