De mannen van LinuxQuestion hebben de gelegenheid gekregen om enkele vragen te stellen aan MandrakeSoft-oprichter Gael Duval. Deze geeft veelal beknopte antwoorden op vragen die betrekking hebben op de beginjaren en toekomstplannen van het bedrijf. Mandrake wil op termijn meer software gaan leveren voor gebruik in het bedrijfsleven, zoals een office-suite en groupware. Daarnaast moet de Users Club zich meer gaan richting op de reguliere gebruiker in plaats van op de tweaker, want op dit moment bestaat het abonneebestand voornamelijk uit 'geeks'. Daarnaast komt ook de financiële gezondheid aan bod. De aankomende jaren hoopt men mede door de genoemde verbeterpunten een grotere invloed te krijgen op het commerciëel interessante enterprisegebied:

GD) The state of Linux in 2-3 years depends on the former issue. Linux is now penetrating the enterprise world very quickly as a replacement to other proprietary operating systems. But for "Joe user", there won't be any Linux rush until software publishers release their applications for Linux.
As for MandrakeSoft, the future looks very good because we recently got our first good successes in local administrations (details will be announced later), so at least we will have business in this field and in the corporate field.
At the same time, MandrakeSoft silently continues to expand its presence in the world as one of the first, or the first Linux distribution in term of user-base. That will pay.
