De geruchtenmolen van The Inquirer komt vandaag met het verhaal dat chipsetbakker VIA niet erg vrolijk is geworden van de nVidia Crush chipset. VIA is eigenaar van S3 graphics en vermoedt dat nVidia patenten heeft geschonden om de ontwikkeling van haar eerste DDR chipsets te versnellen. Het bedrijf zou op dit moment overwegen om over te gaan tot een juridische procedure. Het vermeende strategische verbond tussen AMD en nVidia zit het bedrijf waarschijnlijk ook niet helemaal lekker. Geen van de bedrijven wilde commentaar leveren op deze speculaties:
The rumours, which cannot be substantiated as we write this story, suggest that Via is considering taking action because technology incorporated in one of its chipsets which uses S3 graphics extensions.
SNAP - the joint agreement between AMD and Nvidia which does not officially exist - is also a cause for concern, the same rumour mongers suggest.
No comments from Nvidia nor Via were available at press time. Of course, the situation, as in all partnerships, is very delicate. Know what we mean? Sometimes people unsheath their sabres and rattle them quietly without actually drawing blood...
