All in all, it's not difficult to see that the IBM 60GXP takes what was so great about the 75GXP and improves upon it. Faster access times, better transfer rates, just flat out better scores across the board.
Not only does the new 60GXP perform great, but the thing runs incredibly silent. Even during the Winbench tests, which usually involve a high level of disk thrashing, the 60GXP was barely audible in our open-air environment, while our X15 drive was VERY noticeable. If you're looking for a high-performing and quiet hard drive for your PC, the 60GXP fits your bill.
[...] In a nutshell, the 60GXP is a very nice overall package. Good scores paired with low noise and low heat make this drive one of the best IDE drives we've tested to date. Unfortunately, the 20GB/platter design it was built around may be it's toughest opponent. Limiting your latest drives up to 60GB maximum capacity will hurt IBM in the long run, as IDE drives with 75 and 80 GB of storage capacity are actually coming down to mainstream prices, we may see 60GB drives soon as "average".
