Projected for motherboards costing around $90, the SiS630S should not only undercut i815e motherboards by at least 30%, but should even cost about 10% less than motherboards based on the i810e, a much less flatteringly endowed chipset. Sub-i810e pricing, i815e flexibility and competitive performance on most applications might enable the SiS630S to deep-six Intel's lesser chipset while challenging the i815e as well.
Stability is a serious concern for businesses and OEMs considering the adoption of a new chipset. Gladly, we can report that the SiS630S was a solid performer in this area. Throughout days of rigorous testing, the SiS630S reference platform held up even slightly better that the vaunted ASUS CUSL2 Intel i815e based motherboard.
[...] As with other current integrated solutions, 3d gaming performance is wretched compared to discrete graphics chips. Contrasted with other integrated 3d cores, the one inside the SiS630S falls a step or two behind the core inside the ASUS CUA ALi Aladdin TNT2 with its expensive 150MHz 8MB SDRAM local frame buffer. Compared with the rest of the field, however, the SiS630S tenders highly competitive 3d graphics acceleration. Only the i815e matches the SiS630S in offering the upgrade option of an AGP slot.
Hands down a better solution than the i810e, which is more expensive and lacks an AGP slot and PC133 SDRAM support, the SiS630S is also a much better value than the i815e. Only consider the Aladdin TNT2 over the SiS630S if 3d performance is paramount - and even that is questionable since its 3d core is not very impressive compared with standalone AGP video cards.
