According to the new iBook Tech Specs page at Apple.com, the new models announced yesterday all include G3 processors with 256KB of on-chip Level 2 cache memory. The only G3-class processor to include such a L2 design is IBM's new 750CX family, which sports significant power savings and reduced operating temperature over previous G3s. These run their relatively small L2 cache (half the size of the last-generation iBooks, and 1/4th the size of current Powerbooks' 1MB L2) at full processor speed, rather than the half-or-less previous G3s were rated for -- making those two hundred and fifty six kilobytes deliver generally better performance than 512KB did previously.
