You read reviewers discussing how a person will never go back to anything smaller than a 19” screen after viewing one in real life, and they’re not kidding. It’s simply awe-inspiring to behold this giant and play Quake III Arena, Midtown Madness, Unreal Tournament, Homeworld, and more at 1280x1024. Screw full-scene anti-aliasing! High-resolution gaming is what I live for now!
There are a few aesthetic touches that make the 950p pleasing to the eye. For instance, a nice blue curve is painted onto the top, although most of the time it’s out of the user’s view. The top curves downward as it approaches the rear of the monitor, and on the sides, a nice arrangement of holes allow air to pass through. The power button is fairly small, with just a little light that appears green while the monitor is on and receiving a signal, and blinks orange while the monitor is on and not receiving a signal.
In my mind, Samsung’s SyncMaster 950p is among the greatest 19” monitors that can be bought for under $400, and one of the best invar shadow mask screens overall as well. It certainly won’t break the bank, and you won’t be disappointed by your investment. It’s only a matter of time before 21” monitors finally come down into the average consumer’s price range, at which point we’ll be considering them as well. But at this point, the value of the 950p is unbeatable.
