Maxtor heeft vandaag de DiamondMax 80 aangekondigd, een ATA100 harddisk met een capaciteit van 80GB. Daarmee is de DiamondMax 80 de grootste harddisk van dit moment. De schijf heeft vier platters van elk 20GB en een toerental van 5400rpm. Tevens werden de DiamondMax Plus 45 en DiamondMax VL40 geïntrodceerd. July 17, 2000 -Maxtor Corp. (NASDAQ:MXTR) today established a new world's record in hard drive capacity with its new 80 GB drive, the DiamondMax 80. Available in August 2000, the DiamondMax 80 IDE hard drive is ideal for storage-intensive applications that require high-capacity and fast transfer rates in personal computer (PC) systems, and for consumer electronics and network attached storage (NAS) systems.

DiamondMax 80
Leading the IDE high-capacity segment, the DiamondMax 80 is a four platter, 20 GB per platter hard drive solution. At 5400 RPM and capable of transferring data at rates up to 100 MB per second, the DiamondMax 80 gives Maxtor a unique advantage to offer the highest capacity, highest performance storage solution in the market. The DiamondMax 80 sets the hard drive capacity record with 80 GB of storage capacity, the largest capacity among all available IDE and SCSI drives.
DiamondMax Plus 45
In addition to the DiamondMax 80, Maxtor also announced today, the DiamondMax Plus 45, the newest addition to the world's most popular 7200 RPM hard drive family. The DiamondMax Plus 45 is a 15 GB per platter solution offering the traditional award-winning DiamondMax Plus features including the high-performance Ultra ATA/100 interface.

DiamondMax VL 40
Maxtor also announced today its new DiamondMax VL 40, a "no compromise" 5400 RPM value line solution built on the same DiamondMax 80 technology for entry-level PC systems. This new DiamondMax VL drive holds up to 40 GB capacity, has an impressive 2 MB buffer and is Ultra ATA/100 compatible for the highest performance possible in the value market segment.
With the addition of these new products, Maxtor is the world's leader in shipping desktop hard drives that transfer data at rates up to 100 MB per second. Currently, all Maxtor DiamondMax hard drives are available with Ultra ATA/100 including the new DiamondMax 80, DiamondMax Plus 45 and DiamondMax VL 40.
Major OEMs will be evaluating the DiamondMax 80 and DiamondMax VL 40 in late July. Evaluations of the DiamondMax Plus 45 are currently taking place with major OEMs. General availability for all three products will be in August 2000.
