Japan has slapped export controls on Sony Corp.'s new, hugely popular Playstation2 video game because the machine is so sophisticated it could be used for military purposes, media said Sunday.

[...] Playstation2 is the first game console to face export controls under the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Control Law, Kyodo said. The law requires the trade ministry's approval for the export of restricted products worth more than 50,000 yen ($472). Thus, the export of more than two consoles would be controlled because each is priced at 39,800 yen.

[...] Japan's government has become increasingly wary of the possibility that products meant for civilian use could be diverted for weapons use. Japanese radar and communications devices for civilian use were discovered in a North Korean submarine sunk by the South Korean military in December 1998, and two Japanese men were arrested in January on suspicion of illegally shipping parts for anti-tank rocket launchers to Iran.

Da's wel slikken voor Sony. Maar ze vinden er wel iets op. PS2 kun je gewoon niet tegenhouden.

Totaal dom natuurlijk, maar goed. $472/2 = $236 voor 1 PS2. Niet gek. Met de zonoskar-dollar-naar-gulden-conversie-regel (x3) komt dat uit op 700 piek. Niet slecht voor een gave console die ook nog eens DVDs afspeelt.

Ja hoor, hoe krijgen ze het verzonnen... een playstation in b.v. een nuke... kunnen ze leuk op de zijkant zetten :

Eerst was 'ie regiovrij te krijgen dmv een soort cheat-code in te voeren. MPAA werd daar pissig door, betreffende PS2 werden "teruggeroepen" om te laten veranderen. Je moet niet vragen hoeveel mensen DAT gedaan hebben

wie zou er nou muizen willen gaan exporteren vanuit japan, er lopen hier al genoeg van die rotbeesten rond
