Vandaag is versie 3.2.0.145 van het overbekende VoIP-programma voor Windows uitgebracht. Met Skype kunnen gratis gesprekken worden gevoerd met andere Skypegebruikers, over het algemeen met een verbazend goede kwaliteit. Ook is het mogelijk, tegen een kleine vergoeding, om naar vaste en mobiele telefoons te 'bellen'. Naast deze versie voor Windows worden er ook versies voor Linux, Mac OS X en de Pocket PC ontwikkeld, echter deze lopen technisch enigszins achter op de Windowsversie.
