Software-update: Umbraco CMS 14.3.0

Versie 14.3.0 van Umbraco is uitgekomen. Umbraco is een contentmanagementsysteem voor het bewerken en beheren van dynamische webpagina's. Het geheel is geschreven in C# en draait op een Microsoft-infrastructuur. Er zit een positieve en proactieve community achter met ruim 50.000 geregistreerde gebruikers en ontwikkelaars, en die zorgen voor een stabiele stroom aan releases. Zou wel mooi zijn als jullie ook Umbraco 13 updates posten, Umbraco 13 is namelijk de LTS versie waar 14, 15 en 16 STS versies zullen zijn. Dus mensen die nu naar Umbraco zitten te kijken en geen zin/tijd hebben om majors te updaten kunnen mogelijk beter naar v13 gaan.

Ligt er aan. De overstap van v13 naar v14 is groot door de nieuwe back-office, dus het is een beetje kiezen tussen twee kwaden. Ontwikkelen tegen v13, zeker als je veel custom elementen in de back-office nodig hebt, is het mogelijk niet waard als je van plan bent om de site up to date te houden.
Breaking changes tussen STS versies zijn meestal minimaal, dus je kan redelijk eenvoudig upgraden naar de uiteindelijk nieuwe LTS versie.
Maar voor grote websites/cliënten is het juist wel beter om voor v13 te gaan omdat de LTS over het algemeen een stuk stabieler is.

Je kan in Umbraco 13 ook de nieuwe Umbraco UI elementen gebruiken, dus als je veel custom elementen verwacht nodig te hebben hoeft dat je niet tegen te houden

En ik heb persoonlijk zeer wisselende ervaring met major updates met Umbraco sinds ik het gebruik (vanaf v4), tot het punt dat ze in de tijd van V7 zelfs regelmatig breaking changes hadden bij minor updates, vaak unreported. Dat laatste is gelukkig sinds v8 bij mij niet meer voorgekomen.
