Software-update: Audacious 4.4

Versie 4.4 van Audacious is uitgekomen. Audacious is een lichtgewicht en opensource-muziekspeler en in zekere zin de opvolger van xmms. Het programma kan audio-cd's afspelen of muziekbestanden op de computer, maar ook direct streamen van internet. Het heeft een equalizer aan boord en kan overweg met Winamp-skins. Downloads zijn beschikbaar voor Windows en verschillende Linux-distributies. De changelog voor deze uitgave ziet er als volgt uit:

New plugins and features:

• Add Background Music plugin which makes the sound equally loud within and between tracks, contributed by Michel Fleur
• Restore Lyrics plugin for GTK
• Add Disc Number support (#739)
• Read ReplayGain values in Opus files from R128 tags (#1138)
• Allow to disable column header sorting (#1273)
• Mute/unmute with middle mouse click on volume button (#1353)
• Add new lyrics provider for chartlyrics.com (#1357)
• Use a linear volume scale for PipeWire (#1358)
• Handle Shift-Enter shortcut to queue track in Jump-to-Song dialog
• Offer more configuration options for the Crossfade effect plugin
• Show a tooltip for the Qt status icon plugin
• Support the Scrobbler (Last.fm) plugin also on macOS and Windows
• Allow to run custom commands with the Song Change plugin when a song is stopped
• Support building Audacious on Cygwin with Meson

Bugs fixed since 4.3:

• Make use of Windows' root certificate store to validate HTTPS certificates (#1248)
• Provide the full range for libopenmpt's stereo separation (#1359)
• Handle MP3 files with multiple image tags correctly (#1360)
• Remove French prefix which lyrics.ovh embeds into all their lyrics
• Avoid needless resampling in the PipeWire output plugin
• Fix loading of local or cached lyrics, stored as .lrc files
• Make Scrobbler plugin work again by parsing Last.fm responses properly
• Don't treat MPG123_NEW_FORMAT as error when seeking in MP3 files
• Avoid crash when opening corrupted AAC files
• Fix build with C++20 standard

Changes since 4.4-beta1:

• Use X11/XWayland by default if available
• Prevent using Winamp interface on Wayland
• Install plugins on macOS as file instead of bundle (#1364)
• Improve Wayland support for GTK interface (#1369, #1388)
• Fix build with Qt 6.7.1 (#1393)
• Fix crash after a Qt interface could not be loaded (#1396)
• Plug memory leak for Opus files with embedded images
• Check for Qt SVG module at build time
• Include developer name in appdata file
• Update translations

Other changes:

• Qt 6 and GTK 3 are now used by default, Qt 5 and GTK 2 support can still be enabled at build time though
• GTK support is no longer considered legacy
• Meson is now the preferred way to build Audacious, so consider switching from Autotools
• Switch to x86-64 for Windows build
• Various minor UI improvements
• Our forum and bug tracker were migrated from Redmine to GitHub (see also the announcement)
• Releases are published on GitHub now, based on the corresponding Git tag. Tarballs created by us will still be available via https://distfiles.audacious-media-player.org, as before.

Known issues:

• Using the Winamp interface on Wayland is not supported due to limitations in Wayland regarding application-side window positioning (see also #common problems). We suggest to run Audacious via XWayland therefore.

Ik blijf nog steeds bij het goede oude Winamp

Inderdaad, de laatste echte release: 5.66. Gebruik Winamp naast Plex, fijn combo...

Ik gebruik van Plex de Plexamp. Werkt erg goed op Windows en Android, maar ik ken het niet anders.
De reden voor Winamp is vast en zeker de nostalgie, of heeft het iets wat Plexamp niet heeft?

Winamp gebruik ik wanneer ik via de verkenner of total commander door de bestanden blader, dan is het een kwestie van rechtermuisknop/contextmenu over een map en dan de keuze 'afspelen met Winamp'. Ik ken Plexamp, vind het niet zo fijn als Winamp of de Plex interface omdat je geen library functie hebt (voor zover ik weet). En natuurlijk is Winamp lokaal, dus je kunt bestanden direct van de harddisk spelen, bij Plex moet een muziekbestand in de bibliotheek staan en dat wil ik niet altijd.

Ik gebruik Audacious om mijn beperkte verzameling muziek af te spelen. Het doet wat het moet voor mij.

Ik zag twee features die mij wel interessant lijken.

• Handle Shift-Enter shortcut to queue track in Jump-to-Song dialog
• Allow to run custom commands with the Song Change plugin when a song is stopped

Ik zit nog op versie 4.1 , binnenkort eens kijken of ik een nieuwere versie ga gebruiken.
