Software-update: Memtest86 9.1

Memtest86 logo (79 pix)PassMark Software heeft versie 9.1 van Memtest86 uitgebracht. Met dit programma kan het interne geheugen aan een rigoureuze test worden onderworpen om zo eventuele problemen aan het licht te brengen. Memtest86 is in 1994 door Chris Bradly ontwikkeld en begin 2000 is de wellicht nog bekendere Memtest86+ als een fork ontstaan, wat nogal eens tot verwarring leidt. Sinds 2013 is het eigendom van PassMark Software en is het beschikbaar in een gratis en betaalde uitvoering. Hieronder is de changelog sinds versie 9.0 te vinden, die begin dit jaar is verschenen:

Fixes/Enhancements
  • Fixed parsing of SMBIOS memory device structure for compatibility with DDR5 DIMM data

  • Added new config file parameter, 'MINMEMRANGEMB', for specifying the minimum size of memory ranges that shall be allocated for testing
  • Added new config file parameter, 'AUTOREPORTFMT', for specifying report format of auto-saved reports
  • Added new config file parameter, 'PMPDISABLE', to disable TFTP uploading of XML messages for Management Console integration

Mee eens de beste ervaring heb ik met stress prime onder windows en dan lange fft kiezen. Vervolgens nog 3 rondjes memtester onder Linux en ik geloof het wel.
Prime wordt tegenwoorig afgeraden omdat het de CPU zo artificieel zwaar belast het CPU's kan beschadigen door gebruik van AVX buiten de specs van de CPU. Dus goed opletten wat je instelt (zeker de lange FFT).

Kwestie van je power limits niet te hoog zetten toch? Mijn 5800x klokt gewoon terug als ik AVX gebruik.
Dat screenshot mag na 5 major versies echt wel een keer vervangen worden. Memtest ziet er tegenwoordig iets geavanceerder uit.
Er is inmiddels ook een nieuwere versie van Memtest86+. Deze zal ik binnenkort eens uitproberen.
Hmm.. Dus geen ISO meer. Wil het gebruiken i.c.m. Ventoy. Iemand een idee wat je dan het beste kan doen?
Veel Linux LiveCD distro's hebben bij de boot een menu waarin je ook Memtest kunt runnen. Net even getest, bij Linux Mint Cinnamon kun je in het boot menu Memtest selecteren en draaien.

Edit: De Memtest86+ port lijkt ook te werken, is gewoon een ISO van 2 MB.

Er is nog wel een iso...

Als je de .zip download zit daar een .iso van ongeveer 520mb in, die je gewoon met ventoy kan gebruiken.
Gebruik WinISO om een andere bootable CD image dit erbij te zetten?
Bestaat WinISO nog?

Removed MemTest86 ISO download packages. Users are encouraged to use the USB boot images which allow logs, reports and configuration files to be written to the USB drive. If CD boot is required, please use ISO images from MemTest86 v7 or earlier.
