Software-update: Rufus 2.8.886

Versie 2.8 van Rufus is uitgekomen. Rufus is een Windows-programma waarmee zelfstartende usb-sticks kunnen worden gemaakt. Handig bijvoorbeeld om een besturingssysteem te installeren, wat sneller gaat vanaf een usb-stick dan van een cd of dvd, om het bios bij te werken of om een systeem te benaderen dat niet meer wil starten. Er is overigens een groot aantal tooltjes waarmee dit gedaan kan worden, maar Rufus beweert een van de snelste in zijn soort te zijn. In deze release zijn de volgende veranderingen en verbeteringen aangebracht:

Ideaal tooltje. Zelfs als die-hard Linux gebruiker gebruik ik deze altijd om Linux-ISO's op een USB-stick te krijgen. Er zijn varianten als uNetBootin maar die werken allemaal niet samen met EFI en maken de USB-stick alleen legacy bootable. Het is goed met de hand te doen, maar Rufus doet moet het formatteren met een GPT partitietabel en het uitpakken van de ISO in één.

Qua snelheid maakt het volgens mij weinig uit, de beperkende factor is daar toch altijd de USB-stick zelf.

Ik zag op mijn win10 PC een extra optie om de stick 'Windows To GO" te maken. Terwijl ik dit op deze (win7) PC niet krijg.
Zit dit in Windows 10? Of moet er bepaalde software voor installeerd zijn?

It's only available if you run Rufus on Windows 8 or later. See this FAQ entry.

Geweldig programma, altijd veel lopen stoeien met het juiste programma te vinden, sinds Rufus niet meer op zoek geweest. Kan Windows ISO's en Linux ISO's op USB zetten, heerlijk om geen verschillende tools te hoeven gebruiken. Het enige wat ik mis is SD kaart support, maar zolang ze USB goed doen kan ik er mee leven.

You do realize that this was added with this new version, do you?

This means regular SD card support.

I'm the author of Rufus and I tried to be as impartial as I could during the speed test. I hope you realize that getting an independent panel to test stuff costs money, and that I don't have Microsoft or Apple's budget, especially as I am publishing an app that is 100% gratis.

Besides, the reason these results are being published right on the home page is so that anyone can challenge them, if they think they do not reflect the reality, as it should be very easy to verify...

Like I said, I believe the test. The point in this conversation was that someone wanted the source on 'being the fastest'. Its easier if the source is not the developer it self, but a 3rd party.

Now I guess I should 'believe' it, but its just not a good source.

I know where you come from, and I too would like it better if I didn't have to be the one publishing the speed results, because then I wouldn't have to try to convince people like you that it's not because someone has a vested interest that they aren't trying to be objective with their testing.

Sadly other "impartial" entities, haven't expressed interest in comparing USB creation tools and their speed yet...

Ze zijn de snelste voor mensen die niet volledig altijd weten wat er moet gebeuren. Als ik een bootable USB nodig heb voor Windows, maak ik die zelf wel. Paar diskpart-commando's achter elkaar rammelen en daarna mijn geslipstreamde bestanden een kopie-slag geven naar de USB-stick.

Nice! Want met de build-in optie in bijv. Windows 8, 8.1 en 10 werkt het niet altijd. Op 't laatste moment is er dan "iets" misgegaan... En dan heb je daar een dik half uur op zitten wachten...

Gebruik rufus al een flinke tijd vind het erg lekker werken.
Gebruik het veel voor BIOS updates en nog nooit een probleem tegen gekomen.

Ik gebruik Rufus en YUMI (multiboot).
Rufus is super met Windows, Debian en Kodibuntu, Maar ik heb nog geen goede installer kunnen vinden voor Proxmox (Gratis hypervisor)

@Akeo : have a look at Proxmox VE, see if if there is a way to make it work.

This may have to do with this. Unfortunately, if the Proxmox people use characters like ':' and other stuff in their filenames, it's not gonna work when converted to FAT32 USB.

I'll try to have a closer look at the Proxmox 4.1 ISO to see if there's anything that can be done, but I think you may have to take it to the Proxmox people and ask them to avoid using features that will break their image when copied onto a FAT32 file system.
