Software-update: 7-Zip 9.35 bèta

De ontwikkelaars achter 7-Zip hebben na een lange reeks alfareleases nu een bèta van hun opensource-archiveringsprogramma uitgebracht. 7-Zip kan overweg met een groot aantal compressieformaten, waaronder zip, cab, rar, arj, lzh, chm, gzip, bzip2, z, tar, cpio, rpm, deb en uiteraard het zelfontwikkelde 7z. Verder is de software in staat om iso-bestanden en NSIS-installatiepakketten te openen. In versie 9.35 zijn de volgende drie problemen verholpen:

What's new after 7-Zip 9.34 alpha:

• The BUG was fixed: 7-Zip crashed during ZIP archive creation, if the number of CPU threads was more than 64.
• The BUG in 9.31-9.34 was fixed: 7-Zip could not correctly extract ISO archives that are larger than 4 GiB.
• The BUG in 9.33-9.34 was fixed: The option "Compress shared files" and -ssw switch didn't work.
• The BUG in 9.26-9.34 was fixed: 7-Zip File Manager could crash for some archives open in "Flat View" mode.
• Some bugs were fixed.

Zit err nu ook RAR5 ondersteuning in? Want ik vind 7-ZIp super werken, maar miste de RAR5 support.
Ik gebruik daarom nu Bandizip, dat werkt ook wel goed, maar 7-Zip is op somminge punten net wat betere.

Rar5 support gaat er niet komen, althans niet vanuit de originele ontwikkelaar van 7zip. Ik kan nu niet de bron er bij pakken, maar hij zei op het forum dat unrar.exe wel er bij zit, maar omdat het proprietary is niet wordt gebruikt in 7zip.

Zeg dat wel. Laatste stable release was in 2010 (9.20) en de voorlaatste beta was in 2011 (9.22 beta).

7-Zip 9.35 beta for 99.99% is same code as 9.34 alpha. Only some bugs were fixed.
My latest changes in code for 7-Zip are under development still, so they are not included to 7-Zip 9.35 beta.
So now I have two branches of code: 9.35 and "next_version" code. It's more difficult to support two branches. But at least now I can fix simple bugs faster and release fixed versions.

RAR files can be created only with commercial software WinRAR, RAR, and other software that has written permission from Alexander Roshal or shares copyrighted code under license from Alexander Roshal. The software license agreements forbid reverse engineering.

Graphical WinRAR is available for Windows. Console RAR application is available for Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD. Only WinRAR for Windows and Rar for Linux are available as native 64-bit applications. There is a native fully functional Android application called "RAR for Android"

Voor het uitpakken van RAR-bestanden:

Several programs can unpack the file format. RARLAB distributes the source code and binaries for a freeware command-line "unrar" program, although this code is not under a free software license. This program can decompress/extract, but not create, RAR files. As of November 2014 some 3rd-party programs documented as "supporting the RAR format" did not recognise RAR5 files.

Omdat het rar-formaat exclusief is, en ik dus met alléén WinRar een gecomprimeerd rar-archief aan kan maken gebruik ik dit zelf niet. Meestal pak ik het ouderwets in als .(g)zip, maar vaak ook als .tar.gz of (in mindere mate) tar.bz2. Hangt ervan af aan wie ik iets stuur of online zet...
