Synology is bezig met de ontwikkeling van versie 3.1 van Disk Station Manager, de beheersoftware die op diverse nas-producten van het bedrijf draait. De Disk, Cube en Rack Stations bieden meer dan alleen extra opslagruimte. Zo kunnen ook backups van alle clients op het netwerk worden gemaakt en kunnen bestanden via http, ftp, bittorrent, usenet en emule worden gedownload, zodat bijvoorbeeld de energiegulzige pc 's nachts uit kan, terwijl de download gewoon binnenkomt. Verder kunnen via de ingebouwde iTunes-server audio- en videobestanden over het netwerk worden gestreamd, kan met behulp van php en MySQL een dynamische website worden gehost en kan het als printserver fungeren.
Versie 3.1 kan alleen worden geïnstalleerd over versie 2.1 of hoger en is tevens de laatste versie die op de nas-apparaten uit de x07-serie gebruikt kan worden. De release notes laten geen grote vernieuwingen zien, maar aan alle afzonderlijke onderdelen is geschaafd en zijn verbeteringen aangebracht. Zo kunnen er nu verschillende volumes worden aangemaakt op een raid-configuratie, kan de printserver met multifunctionele printers overweg, is de mailserver verbeterd en nu in het besturingssysteem ingebakken en kan er naar torrents worden gezocht in de downloadmanager. - Storage Manager
- New and improved Storage Manager offers the flexibility of creating multiple volumes or on single RAID, which can be a pooled space of one or multiple hard drives. Storage Manager allows you to manage your storage in a more flexible and efficient way across all available hard drives.
- Create and expand the volume size at your wish as your application needs change without disruption.
- Synology Hybrid RAID now offers two disks fault tolerance to ensure your data is always safe with your DiskStation.
- iSNS support provides easy management and access for your iSCSI targets.
- Shared Folder Sync: Shared Folder Sync allows you easily sync the shared folders from one DiskStation to another. You can schedule the sync task according to needs, and retain the mirror shared folders on the destination DiskStation.
- File Browser Enhancements:
- You can now directly play the supported video via File Browser from any web browser as long as Internet connection is available.
- You can now directly preview the supported photos via File Browser from any web browser as long as Internet connection is available.
- Advanced search is now available to offer you numerous options for making your searches more precise and getting more useful results.
- The option to enable file indexing function is also available to increase the efficiency to return the search results.
- Multifunction Printer Support (available for Windows environment): Multifunction printer is now supported to allow the print/fax/scan functions on your multifunction printer to be shared among family members or colleagues over the same network. Please see the special notes below.
- AirPrint Support: AirPrint is now supported to allow you wirelessly print photos, email, web pages, and documents from your iPad/iPhone to any AirPrint-enabled printer connected to DiskStation. Please see the special notes below.
- Backup and Restore Enhancements:
- Back up the same share to multiple destinations is now supported to allow you to keep multiple copies of the same share at different locations.
- Windows ACL is now supported to allow you to restore the data alone with its complex privilege settings.
- Auto DSM Update: Auto DSM update is newly added to automatically check the latest DSM version available for your DiskStation, and allows you always update to the latest operating system upon your approval.
- Management Enhancements:
- Administrator group is now support to allow multiple administrators help you manage the fast growing storage in your network, as well as the ease of managing different MIS accounts.
- Password strength can now be applied to all user accounts to help protect your data, and personal information to provide a more secure environment.
- Smart System Migration allows you to easily migrate your old hard drives from one DiskStation to another DiskStation with the same model in case of hardware failure.
- Network user interface has been enhanced to provide easy management for multi-LAN.
- Mail Server: Mail server was included in the previous Mail Station package, but it is now built inside the operating system, DiskStation Manager 3.1, providing POP3/IMAP and SMTP services, you may now manage your emails on your favorite email clients such as Microsoft Outlook or Mac’s Mail.
- Mail Station 2 Package:
- The brand new Mail Station 2 package provides you the web mail service which allows your email communication to be more intuitive, efficient, and useful.
- Multiple email accounts fetching is now supported to allow you to store all your emails at one central location.
- Multiple SMTP servers are supported to allow you to choose different email account to be sent from in order to protect your privacy.
- Personal contacts are now included to provide you with easy contact management.
- Download Station 3:
- The new Download Station is redesigned to provide an easy-to-use and intuitive user interface.
- Torrent search is now available with the new Download Station, you may now directly make your searches from your favorite download sources in Download Station and start downloading away.
- eMule download service is now available for non-admin users, and allows multi-users to own their personal download tasks.
- RSS support is newly added to keep track of when your favorite site has been updated with new content and download it automatically.
- A notification will be sent to DSM desktop when a download task has been completed.
- Audio Station 3:
- The new Audio Station is redesigned to provide an easy-to-use experience.
- Mini player mode is now available with the new Audio Station, it offers only the core playback functions and nothing else. It allows you to manage your files or download tasks and still able to gain control of your Audio Station at the same time.
- The equalizer function is available with the USB mode in Audio Station. With just a few simple clicks, you can use the equalizer in Audio Station to customize your listening experience.
- The personal playlist is now available to your family members and your friends who have access to your Audio Station. They can easily keep their favorite music playlist of their own on your Audio Station without sharing it to anyone else.
- ID3 tag editor is now added to allow you to modify one or more songs’ information at the same time, such as artist, album name, or title of the song.
- Photo Station Enhancements:
- DiskStation is now open to host multiple Photo Stations. Your family members or closed friends may host their own Photo Station on your DiskStation and share it with their own group of friends.
- Social network is now featured in Photo Station, you can easily share the link of your photo album onto your Facebook, Twitter, or Plurk.
- Now you can manage your videos or photos directly in Photo Station. You can move or remove the photos/videos immediately in Photo Station user interface, and able to preview them right away.
- Surveillance Station Enhancements:
- 42 more IP camera models from Panasonic, Arecont, ACTi, Vivotek, Linksys, Zavio, Flexwatch, Messoa and Y-cam are newly supported. Please see the special notes below.
- Smart Search now features general motion, foreign object, missing object, camera occlusion, and focus lost to make your video searches more precise and getting more useful results. (Available on Internet Explorer only)
- Image enhancement control is added to the recorded events to adjust various visual elements for more customized viewing experience.
- Surveillance Station is now supported in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome to provide more interoperability with popular platforms on the market to meet the needs of diverse users. (Available on Internet Explorer only)
- Import and export IP camera configuration is now supported for easy setup migration, as well as simple maintenance.
- HTTPS is now supported to provide a more secure way to live view your IP cameras while you are away. (Available on Internet Explorer only)
- Live view can now be viewed with the original aspect ratio which reduces image distortion and maintains intended quality.
- Customizable landing page location allows all Surveillance Station spectators and managers to choose the default page when they login.
- iPhone App (Coming soon on Apple® App Store): A new iPhone app, DS file, will soon available on Apple® App Store for free download. DS file allows you who own an iPhone/iPod touch to browse the files on your DiskStation via WebDAV, and download/upload files from/to your DiskStation. You can also manage – copy, move, rename or delete - your files while you are away from your office or home as long as the Internet connection is available, off-line browsing for your favorites is also supported in case of the unstable wireless connection.
- iPad App (Coming soon on Apple® App Store):
- DS photo+ is now enhanced with HTTPS support and the new and improved user interface has utilized the large screen on iPad to provide a more intuitive hands-on experience.
- DS audio is now enhanced with HTTPS support and the new and improved user interface has utilized the large screen on iPad to provide the 100% iPad user experience.
- EZ-Internet Router Supporti: More than 40 router models from Netgear, Buffalo, TP-Link, Trendnet, and other brands are now supported. Please see the special notes below.
- Samba/CIFS Access Log: The access log for Windows file transfer is now added to allow you to monitor the history of file transferring in Samba/CIFS.
- The NUT package has been upgraded to 2.4.3 to provide more support for UPS. Please see the special notes below.
- Background mode is now supported to allow you to easily manage the connection status of your multifunction printer.
