Het Duitse computermagazine c't heeft lange tijd een programma met de naam Offline Update-tool uitgebracht. Met dat programma was het mogelijk om Windows-computers die niet over een internetverbinding beschikken, toch te kunnen voorzien van de laatste updates van Microsoft. Het programma zelf werd ontwikkeld door ene Torsten Wittrock en hij brengt het sinds kort in eigen naam uit. De naam is om deze reden omgedoopt tot WSUS Offline Update en wordt nu opensource aangeboden.
In WSUS Offline Update kan in een overzichtelijke interface uit één of meerdere talen gekozen worden voor Windows 2000 en hoger en Office 2000 en hoger. Het programma haalt vervolgens alle updates van de ftp-server van Microsoft en maakt er naar keuze dan een iso-bestand van het geheel per taal of per besturingssysteem. Meer informatie over dit programma kan hier worden gevonden. Enkele weken geleden is versie 6.1 van WSUS Offline Update uitgebracht en het changelog daarvan ziet er als volgt uit:

- Warning about 'automatic reboot' option removed for Windows Vista and Server 2008 target systems
- Invalid conditional statements in DoUpdate.cmd corrected
- (defect #75): Linux download script will now wait for confirmation on any user input
- (defect #76): Linux download script will now ask for all required user input before starting downloading
- (defect #77): Linux download script will now call sub-script using /bin/bash
- (defect #78): Linux scripts contained invalid shebang
