Software-update: REALbasic 2009 release 1

REALbasic is een uitgebreide ontwikkelomgeving die geschikt is om allerlei applicaties te ontwikkelen, van kleine utilities tot grote bedrijfsapplicaties. Het pakket is compatibel met het welbekende Visual Basic en bevat ook een applicatie om Visual Basic-broncode om te zetten naar REALbasic. REAL Software heeft een nieuwe versie uitgegeven met 2009 release 1 als de versieaanduiding. De lijst met veranderingen is in dit document na te lezen en de bijbehorende aankondiging ziet er als volgt uit:

REAL Software, creator of REALbasic, a cross-platform development tool for creating software for Mac, Windows and Linux, is now shipping REALbasic 2009 Release 1. The first release of 2009 continues to focus on product quality and reliability, while introducing 26 new features and 100 improvements. This release includes a new Quickstart window that helps new users get started developing software in REALbasic.

Some of our users who switched to REALbasic from Java or C++ say they can develop software four times faster in REALbasic than any other development tool,"commented Geoff Perlman, Founder and CEO of REAL Software. Since REALbasic is cross-platform, developers can create a Mac, Windows and Linux version of their app from one platform, thus broadening their market. REAL Software recently launched a new Affiliate Program where developers, and those with a web presence, can help promote REALbasic 2009 Release 1. The Affiliate Program allows affiliates to advertise REALbasic on their own websites, and REAL Software will pay a commission to the affiliate for each new license sale they generate. Ik heb 't even gedowned om te proberen.

Eigenlijk ben ik blij verrast. Het is net VB2005/2008, maar dan een stuk simpeler qua opzet. De IDE lijkt op die van MS, maar het is allemaal een stuk eenvoudiger. Snelle installatie (met VS kan ik 3 potten koffie leegdrinken, uit ellende maar een clean copy in een Virtual Machine gemaakt en in de kast gezet), klik klak forms, buttons en aanpassingen daarvan (ipv die ellenlange lijsten properties bij VS), en je draait een programma. Zelfs Word Automation lijkt tot de mogelijkheden te behoren.

Kortom, deze ga ik eens langer op de schijf houden zum testen. Kan ik gelijk de basale programmeertaal eens oppoetsen, want ik ben nog steeds een pré-beginner qua Visual Basic. En dat terwijl ik zoveel ideeën heb

De windows versie is toch niet gratis te downen? Of is er een 30-dagen trail versie ofzo? Maar dan heeft "langer op de schijf houden" geen zin.

Verder ga ik deze eens bekijken voor de zeer interresante cross platform functionaliteit.

Het klonk als een interessant product, tot ik het prijskaartje zag.
Met de trial versie is het overigens alleen maar mogelijk programma's te maken die 5 minuten blijven draaien.

De Personal Edition is voor Linux gratis. (Windows en Mac PE versie kost $99,-)
Maar om cross-platform te kunnen werken moet je de prof versie hebben die $500,- kost.
Dus niet echt goedkoop maar wel gratis beschikbaar

Je zou voor de aardigheid ook 's naar de aanbiedingen van MS en Borland kunnen kijken v.w.b. ontwikkel tooling, m.n. Visual Studio en Developer Studio, en dan zie je dat de prijzen van Real Software best concurrerend zijn. Enige voordeel van MS is dat de Express Editions gratus zijn ipv. $99,- voor een PE, maar daar kun je niet zo makkelijk een los tooltje mee maken wat overal zonder installatie zal werken, want je hebt altijd wel een runtime nodig die tig keer zo groot is als het tooltje zelf

Get Real,

Dit is een tool om software te ontwikkelen. Niet alles is gratis. Als dit tool je helpt snel goede applicaties te maken die je kunt verkopen dan is 500EUR niks. Een willekeurige inhuur ICT'er met een lease bak kost al meer dan 500 EUR/mnd aan die lease bak.

Is het een eigen programmeer taal of blijft het in VB?

Het is ooit begonnen als basaal Basic, maar er zitten (vanaf het begin, ca. 3 eeuwen voor christus oid) eigen 'uitbreidingen' in die niet in VB zitten. Natuurlijk vinden zij dat beter dan dat MS het heeft gedaan, en daarom noemen ze 't Real Basic...

Moet je eens kijken naar PureBasic, goedkoop en errug compacte output zonder onafhankelijkheden, cross-platform en een fantastische less-is-more filosofie.

Ik zou eens kijken naar VS.NET Express Edition VB.NET .

Alleen kan je daar alleen maar .NET applicaties mee maken. Met Real Basic maak je native executables voor Windows, Mac en Linux.
