Met het programma Nagios kan je verschillende onderdelen van het netwerk en de services op je servers in de gaten houden. Het kan onder andere smtp-, pop3-, http -en nntp-services en host resources zoals de processorload en disk usage controleren. Wanneer er iets gebeurt waarvan je op de hoogte gehouden wilt worden, kan je verschillende notificaties instellen die vervolgens per mail of per pager afgeleverd kunnen worden. Het programma kan eenvoudig naar eigen wens worden uitgebreid door gebruik te maken van de aanwezige pluginstructuur.
