Bij GamePC is een kleine roundup verschenen waarin een drietal LCD monitoren aan de tand worden gevoeld. De deelnemers zijn de NEC 1830, de SGI 1600SW en de Sony SDM-M81. De NEC en Sony zijn beide 18,1” LCD’s met een standaard resolutie van 1280x1024. Het SGI exemplaar is slechts 17,3” groot, maar kan wel een resolutie van 1600x1024 aan. Qua aansluitingen zitten er flinke verschillen tussen de monitoren; de NEC kan alleen maar overweg met een analoog signaal, de Sony ook met DVI en het SGI exemplaar kan praktisch alles aan (DFP, DVI, HD-15 en HDTV).
Van deze monitoren blijkt het SGI exemplaar het beste te presteren. Deze monitor heeft als enige een pixel response rate die snel genoeg is voor een gamer. Daarnaast ziet de monitor er stijlvol uit, maar qua beeldkwaliteit zijn er een paar kleine minpuntjes. De Sony monitor is ook leuk, maar een lage pixel respons rate maakt hem niet geschikt voor gamers. Hetzelfde liedje geldt voor de NEC, maar daar komt ook nog bij op dat deze monitor geen DVI ingang heeft:
Well, if you've read any of this article at all, you'll probably know which screen I think is tops out of the bunch. The SGI 1600SW of course! I'm smitten with this monitor, without a doubt. Fast pixel response, the useful Multilink Adapter box, the sweet external styling, and of course, the wide screen ratio is just the icing on the cake. Even though this monitor is edging on almost three years old, it still holds it's own. Now, if only SGI would make a 1600SW version 2, we'd be in business.
If it weren't for the slower pixel refresh rate, the Sony LCD monitor would be right up there with the 1600SW. The Sony has a great look, is super-thin, and handles both DVI and analog connections. At its native 1280x1024 with a digital connection, it's got a marvelous looking picture.
As for the NEC 1830-BK, it's a nice 18" LCD, but it's simply outclassed by the Sony and SGI monitors. While it does have a nice deep black finish, it is the bulkiest of the monitors, and is analog only. Still, it is the cheapest overall monitor out of the three. Even with all of our nitpicks, it's still a good looking monitor, and looks pretty good on a desk with a matching black case and speakers.

). Bedrijven en scholen die met dat soort bakken werken, zijn vaak hoofdzakelijk met 3D, videobewerking, e.d bezig en dan heb je ook wel een aardig snelle monitor nodig als je voor LCD kiest.
