Even with all these cool Windows applications, what can the Muse do in other OSes? Almost everything! C-Media has taken it upon themselves to do drivers for almost every alternative OS out there. The two main ones that I tested were Linux and BeOS. I tested the Muse under RedHat 7.0 and Mandrake 7.1. RedHat seemed to have a serious problem with it's audio, as after about 30 minutes or so, the eSound driver would hog all system resources and totally hang the system. Luckily, Mandrake did not have this problem. I could play MP3s in great quality for days with the Muse. The same goes for BeOS too! Just download the BeOS driver from C-Media's website, install it (even with a package format) and restart the media server, simple as that! I would like to thank C-Media for supporting non-Windows platforms... makes my job a little more fun.
Overall, I think the Muse is a decent card. There is not the added spice and niftiness of a control panel application that some cards have, and the drivers need a little work as they are rough around the edges in the term of EAX sounds but overall, a good card. On the other hand, I would definitely recommend this card to linux or BeOS users! It's got good sound and since you didn't pay for the OS, you can save money on your soundcard too!
