The VH6-II is ABIT’s newest VIA Apollo Pro 133A-based ATX mainboard for Intel Pentium III and Celeron FC-PGA CPUs. It supports 133MHz FSB speeds and AGP 4X, and adds two features to its predecessor (VH6): support for Ultra DMA/100 IDE devices and ABIT’s SoftMenu™III! The VH6-II also features an AC’97 Audio Codec and an AMR slot for low cost/high performance audio and modem solutions.
The ABIT VH6-II offers immediate compatibility with and full support for the fastest Intel FC-PGA processors on the market. Its three 168-pin DIMM sockets support up to 1.5GB worth of SDRAM in 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512MB modules. It also supports ECC and VCM. It supports up to four Ultra DMA/100 devices and provides two USB ports plus a header for two additional ports. Its 1 AMR, 1 AGP, 1 ISA, 5 PCI configuration gives you the greatest possible expansion flexibility.
686B Southbridge
The original VH6 offers the top of-the-line in support from the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset, but it is limited by its Southbridge’s (686A) support of only Ultra DMA/66, while Ultra DMA/100 has become today’s standard IDE data transfer mode. The addition of the 686B Southbridge changes that. This chip adds the ability to enjoy 100MB/sec transfer rates on both native IDE channels, allowing for maximized disk performance from up to four hard drives.
SoftMenu™III
Another new addition to the VH6-II is ABIT’s unique SoftMenu™III for VIA chipsets. The VH6-II’s SoftMenu™III has special added features and functions that will allow for maximum performance and enhancement tweaks, including FSB choices in single megahertz steps. The base FSB settings are 66, 68, 75, 80, 83, 100, 103. 105, 110, 112, 115, 120, 124, 133, 140, 145 and 150MHz. From these base settings, adjustments of 0-28 MHz can be selected in increments of 1MHz.
Miscellany
In addition to the PCI, ISA, AGP, and AMR slots, the VH6-II also features color-coded, PC-99 compliant PS/2 keyboard and mouse connectors, parallel and serial ports, built in audio and IrDA TX/RX connectors, plus 2 USB connectors (with an onboard heard for expansion to two further ASB channels). Wake on LAN and Ring are built in, and VIA Hardware Monitoring watches over fan speeds, voltages, and system temperature.
