All of this “glitz and glamour” of high technology doesn’t do much for you if the speakers don’t sound good, does it? From all sound sources, the sound that came from the 3500s sounded thin and tinny, with the bottom end losing it big time with any volume past half-way. These speakers remind me of those systems you see sometimes in those “value stores” that boast a ton of lights, knobs, and brag about things like Dolby Digital and how they’ll "take your sound experience to the next level”, only to actually listen to them and suddenly be overwhelmed with the desire to plug your ears and run away. I guess we’ve become somewhat jaded around here at GD from the ear candy that our Klipsch ProMedia’s offer.
Now, I know there’ll be some of you tech zealots that will email us and say things like “what about this cool feature or that one?” Like I mentioned, all the coolest features in the world can’t make up for sub-par sound quality. That’d be like taking a Ferrari, with all of its flash and style, and sticking in a 4-cylinder motor from a 73’ Ford Pinto. The sad part was, that no matter what sound source we tried (from games to movies), the first thing we could think of was how Creative was so worried about including cool gadgets, that they forgot about something called quality speakers (drivers) and power.
[...] Despite the effort Creative put into the 3500s, there’s no way we can wholeheartedly recommend them. If it’s Dolby Digital 5.1 bliss you’re seeking, then you should look at the Midiland 8200s which feature a 200 watt amp, and if you don’t care about 5.1 and just want the loudest, best sounding speakers around, then go for the Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400.
