De mannen bij GamePC hebben een vergelijking tussen een flink aantal Socket A koelers het web op gepleurd. Er worden in totaal 9 koelers getest, waaronder 2 Alpha, 3 Coolermaster en 2 Thermaltake koelers. De Alpha PAL blijkt het beste werk te doen wat betreft het koelen van de processor. Verassend genoeg wordt de tweede plaats ingenomen door een standaard Intel koeler. Deze heeft als voordeel boven de Alpha dat hij kleiner en geruislozer is, maar één probleem is er wel: hij wordt alleen verkocht samen met een Pentium III 933 of sneller:

Amazingly, Intel's revision 2 FC-PGA cooler works extremely well on Socket-A chips, keeping the CPU at nearly the same temperature of the Alpha, while staying much quieter and isn't as tall. Unfortunately, you can't just go out and buy one of these coolers, you have to grab one from a friend with a boxed FC-PGA CPU (only 933 MHz and above come with the new fan).
The Coolermaster Galileo did quite well, although not as good as we would have expected with such a cool copper heat pipe design. Although, we think when Coolermaster refines the technology and makes a cooler specifically for Socket-A, it could be a top performer.
Even though AMD's run hotter and are more fragile than Intel chips, with the right cooling, they can be just as stable. While the Alpha still shows it's muscle with sheer heatsink mass, the Coolermaster heats perform great for their pricetags, and if can manage to get your hands on an Intel cooler, they work great as well. Socket-A is looking better and better every day, let's hope no more disasters like the "Thermaltake fiasco" happen any time soon to damage the platform's credibility.
