Toshiba heeft bekend gemaakt dat in hun super dunne, .80-inch dikke Portege 3440CT laptop een cooling systeem komt met water en een fan .
TOSHIBA FLEXES ITS ENGINEERING MUSCLE WITH SUPER COOLING TECHNOLOGY FOR LATEST ULTRA-THIN, ULTRA-LIGHT PORTABLE PC IRVINE, Calif., April 17, 2000 - Demonstrating its engineering dominance in the computing market, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS), Computer Systems Group (CSG) today announced the .80-inch-thin Portégé® 3440CT portable computer with Super Cooling technology. A milestone in thermodynamic design, Toshiba's Super Cooling enables increased performance levels in ultra-thin designs.
[...] As a result of customer demand for faster portable computers, internal components now are reaching higher heat levels. Defusing heat is one of the biggest challenges in portable design, especially with ultra-thin portables such as Toshiba's Portégé 3440CT. Toshiba has taken the lead and developed a sophisticated yet simple design that controls heat similar to how a car's cooling system works, using water and a fan. Because liquid transfers heat much more efficiently than air, Toshiba utilizes this thermodynamic principle to liquid cool components in their portable PCs (there is a patent pending on Toshiba's use of this technology). Controlling heat in portable PCs lends to higher performance, fewer component failures and increased user comfort.
Misschien komt er toch nog een tijd dat de notebook tweakable wordt, waterkoeling komt niet eens standaard in een desktop PC .
