Toshiba and IBM said they will boost their joint production of liquid crystal display screens by 50 percent beginning next April to meet demand.Display Technology Inc., a joint venture operated by the companies, will increase manufacturing capacity at two separate plants in western Japan, Toshiba spokeswoman Midori Suzuki said. The company will increase production of its 12.1 inch displays by 50 percent to 450,000 units a month and of its 10.4 inch displays by 20 percent to 240,000 units.
Display Technology will spend 10 billion yen ($94 million) at the two plants, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, without citing sources. Toshiba and IBM officials would not comment on the figure.
